Do the "values voters" have their own third party?
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 10:15 AM by tjwash
I mean a real, live organized one like the Greens have their own third party that represents their interests. Do the ultra conservative "values voters" have a third party of their own? A party that is organized enough to get on the ballot every election year November and give them a real candidate for them to cast their votes for?

The only reason I ask, is because it seems one of the questions on talk radio shows, and a few times on the Ed Shultz show the past couple of weeks has been "if the values voters jump the conservative ship in light of recent events, should the progressives take them on board?"

All I could think of is "Why?"

I know we are supposedly a "big tent," but come on-pandering is pandering. Especially if it is so completely transparent as to even want any votes that would be cast from a group that is so precisely opposite in ideology from progressive thought.

If we are so concerned with where the vote from the ultra right "onward christian soldiers-turn America into a theocracy-run everyone who is not a christian out of the US-herd all gays into concentration camps" crowd, why don't we simply help them form their own third party that represents all of their interests and give them a place to cast their votes for?

Just a random thought after a long road trip into the heartland the last three weeks...

1. They should
Then the Republicans would tank in the polls and there'd be room enough left over for a Green entry and we'd have four parties in the US: Democrat, Republican, Green, and Crazy (: p)

5. I think the Theocratic Party would work
We could then call them America's TP or "that group of a-- wipes." The initials could also stand for the Talibangelical Party, which would be just as accurate.

3. on my first cup of coffee, so I hope I get this right -
Sometimes I see the Freepers talking about something called the Constitution Party.

Let's see. There is a web site for such a thing.

6. The Constitution Party
But it's as much of a going concern as the Green Party - hell they can't even spoil very many elections.

7. "Values voters" were a fiction written by Rove to cover for
the vote rigging of 2004. They don't exist.

The taliban right doesn't have the numbers to do what Rove claimed they did in 2004.

9. The folks we can pick up from the GOP are the libertarian-minded crowd.

They're fed up with the Jesus wing.

They won't agree with us on economic issues, but given how Bush has pissed away money on Iraq, that may not be such a problem. But we have to be uncompromising in our support for personal freedom issues: Reproductive and End-of-Life Choice, Separation of Church and State, Free Speech, Civil Liberties, End The Drug War, Equal rights for gays, etc.

We can pick up a few stray "values voters" the same way we get Greens on board: Liveable Min. Wage, SPHC system.

The "Values Voters" can vote American Independent Party or whoever it is that the GOP Platform -by merely calling for the birth control pill to be criminalized, but not explicitly demanding the death penalty for women who take it- is too "moderate" for.
