WEB VOICES: YouTube puts political lives online (Reid slamming)
WASHINGTON -- One of the hottest sites on the Internet is making online video stars of Sen. Harry Reid and other Nevada politicians -- whether they want to be or not.

As posted in a clip on the popular YouTube Web site, photo cutouts of the Senate minority leader and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi are in front of the U.S. Capitol singing about a potential Democratic takeover of Congress.

"I want my geese to lay gold eggs for Easter," Pelosi demands while lip-synching to a tune from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."

Reid replies, "It will, sweetheart. Anything you say."

Another video shows a man holding up pieces of computer paper scrawled with marker. The signs are critical of Reid's handling of a 2001 Las Vegas land transaction widely reported earlier this month.

3. Finally the GOP response
to citizen catches of wild political gaffes dumped immediately on YouTube. Such venues and useages are fair game or we wouldn't have drawn first and best blood, broadcasting wild gaffes the media would never have communicated much to the voters, sparing the official campaigns the decision of airing such comically offensive(though true) material.

Besides, ACTUAL, fairly presented clips will likely give the main advantage to Dems. The GOP is all about crudely and dishonestly edited poor fiction for the perpetual sneer and smear campaign. When Randy Kuhl ghets an actual quote and gets jeered it says a lot more and more fairly than a cartoon edited satire. The Net audience does not reflect the same type of uncritical easily confused audience as the TV crowd.

This highlights of course that the REAL answer to fair campaigning and the victory of truth is truth itself and fair general forums and real investigative independent news. Small counters to our ruinous current situation are not magic solutions but only highlight the bigger issue. The GOP has the money and power to use any small toolkit we might think clever, even if they do it badly.
