Just got a call from the RNC's Business Advisory Council, asked to join...
This is too funny.

I own a small high-end graphic design business in Northern CA.

My phone rings about 20 minutes ago. It's obviously not a client -- I almost hang up. I hate it when people call me and don't get right to the point.

It's someone from Tom Reynold's office. As a life long Dem and ardent Bush-hate living happily in Lynn Woolsey's district 4,000 miles away, I am now very curious. I decide to be a spy for a few minutes.

I finally own up to being the person they are looking for . . .me. Tom Reynolds would like to invite me to be an honorary member of RNC's Business Advisory Council and give me some damn award and invite me to a dinner with the President. Am I interested? Truthfully not at all, but I have to hear more. What the hell is this all about.

So I say: sure.

They play a message from Tom Reynolds about small business taxes, inviting me to join etc..... I bite my tongue.

Operator comes back on: would I like to join the Business Advisory Council? I say, does it cost me anything? They say no. I say: sure tell me more about it.

They tell me I get an award, a picture of the president, a gavel, an invitation to a dinner, and all this other crap.

They then ask if they can put my name in a Wall Street Journal Ad supporting the RNC. I say: ABSOLUTELY NOT. They ask for money: I say ABSOLUTELY NOT.

They tell me to finish my membership by going to a website.

Do I continue to be a spy and fill out the web form. Or do I laugh and go on with my day?

1. Tom Delay had a scam like this
Several years ago I was invited to be on some panel or group by someone in Delay's office. It was easy to turn down.

2. My boss gets these calls all the time
from / in Tom Reynold's name.
I've gotten to the point where I tell them we (meaning me) don't support
Republicans (although the boss man does) because of Mark Foley.
I don't let them leave messages. And I encourage them to vote Democratic!

3. I got this call last year
I asked what the catch was. They told me I only neeeded to donate $300. I said no. The teletron said "surely you support President Bush's economic initiatives!"

My response was literally "are you on crack? Do you support those policies that offshore the jobs of hard working Americans? Do you support companies that abuse their employees? My mother, father, brother in law, two cousins and I have all been out of work at least once since President Bush got into office. No, I don't support his policies. Any of them. If you can sleep at night, more power to you, but I want some of what you are smoking."

9. I got a call from that group many years ago asking if I would
listen to a message from Newt. My immediate response - "No, I wouldn't spit in his ear if his brain was on fire".

The caller got tickled and asked me to repeat my comment and he was going to put me on speaker phone. I could tell he was motioning to people around him and getting them to listen to me, then he asked me to repeat what I had said. I repeated my above comment, added a few more (including one about peeing in his asshole) and suggested they might want to take me off their calling list. Lots of laughing in the background.

I guess they did - I have never heard from them again.

10. I sent them a thirty pound brick using their postage-paid envelope.
In return, they sent me a Platinum GOP Membership Card.
