White House promises "no compromise, no discussion, no negotiation" with Democratic Congress

It's Lonely At the Top
How the election became a referendum on an isolated President--and how it is likely to reshape American politics
By KAREN TUMULTY, MIKE ALLEN

... If lame-duck Presidents are to achieve anything, they often have to look for ways to go around Congress, especially when it is in the hands of the other party. Clinton used Executive Orders and his bully pulpit to encourage school uniforms, impose ergonomic rules on employers and prevent mining, logging and development on 60 million acres of public land. White House press secretary Tony Snow says Bush may take the same bypass around Capitol Hill. "He told all of us, 'Put on your track shoes. We're going to run to the finish,'" Snow said. "He's going to be aggressive on a lot of fronts. He's been calling all his Cabinet secretaries and telling them, 'You tell me administratively everything you can do between now and the end of the presidency. I want to see your to-do list and how you expect to do it.' We're going to try to be as ambitious and bold as we can possibly be."

In fact, when it comes to deploying its Executive power, which is dear to Bush's understanding of the presidency, the President's team has been planning for what one strategist describes as "a cataclysmic fight to the death" over the balance between Congress and the White House if confronted with congressional subpoenas it deems inappropriate. The strategist says the Bush team is "going to assert that power, and they're going to fight it all the way to the Supreme Court on every issue, every time, no compromise, no discussion, no negotiation."

1. Are they saying this like it's a new strategy?
Because the Bush administration hasn't exactly been the Reasonables with anyone, least of all anyone who isn't in the right political party or tax bracket.

9. Well, thanks, blivet! Sharing this childish determination...
...to get your own way with the American people can only make it easier for a Dem-led Congress to put the blame for not accomplishing anything squarely where it belongs.

So much for being a "uniter, not a divider." Likewise the myth of "bipartisanship."

surprisedly,
Bright

12. It is simply astonishing.
They're getting their asses kicked left and right, the vast majority of the nation disapproves of their hate and fear tactics, and THIS is the message they want to get out to the voters? Vote for the US, or we'll ignore the wishes of The People even more? What the fuck is in these people's heads? I really, honestly don't understand it. To whom is this message supposed to appeal, and WHY? Is turning out the backwash going to help them at the polls? I really just don't get these people.

19. Here is my take, Mr. Bush Jr. and his cronies cannot speak to anybody
with a hint of liberalism in their rhetoric. That means there will be no communication with a Democratic House or Senate, he will treat the congress with the same tactics that he uses on North Korea, i.e. he will need a go-between and if something goes right, Bush will take credit for the action, if something goes wrong, Bush will blame the go-between and the Democratic Party. With a willing Media, this should not be a problem for Mr. Bush Jr. That is the plan!

21. More time to investigate then!
If the Bush Regime is going to take away the ability of a Dem Congress to pass the legislation it wants, that's only more time to hold hearings about Bush's malfeasance, and they can do a lot of that with witnesses, including those who have left the administration.

Cheney bunker. (Didn't I see a shredding seen in a bunker in "Downfall"?)

They must really believe Dems will retake the House and the criminal investigations will begin.

28. The whole problem w/the bush administration is that ...
"...the Bush team is "going to assert that power, and they're going to fight it all the way to the Supreme Court on every issue, every time, no compromise, no discussion, no negotiation."

For God's sake, that is why the nation is so screwed up, they refuse to compromise or negotiate. EVERYTHING they have done is a failure, basically because they had no idea what they were/are doing, and a little discussion might make things a tad more realistic.

These people are insane.

If there are to be investigations, let them defend their decisions...(well, they are indefensible). They wanted the power, they messed u-p incredibly; the nation has paid for their stupidity, now it is time to hold them accountable.

Like Bush* and Cheney ever grew up. These are just the leftovers from Nixon's thugs. The truth be known, they used Ronald Reagan as a prop.
