Is it legal to use camera phones in voting booths?
If so I thought it might be a good idea to video record these machines when they are not working. A lot of cell phones these days record video.

1. It depends on your state, but my state does not allow cameras in the polling place.
Privacy of the vote and all that. But if YOU want to go and video your own vote, if you have a private voting booth, then who would know?

I have no proof to back that up but that's what I think.

5. It would probably be worth bending the rules
If your machine isn't working and your phone record video, I think it would be a good idea to record it regardless. At least post it anonymously somewhere for the world to see.

12. Ya, and 8 seconds should be plenty...
I know the Motorola Razr and a lot of other phones record video. I noticed teenagers using them at a concert I went to a few months ago. It's really easy to record multiple 8 second clips. They also record audio.

7. Here in Cali it's illegal to photograph or videotape another person in the act
Of entering or leaving a polling place. It's legal to take in any kind of camera, and photograph or videotape anything that isn't a person (other than yourself) entering or leaving. (California EC 18541.)

8. All cell Phones must be turned off in the polling area.
In VA, you can't even chat on the phone while waiting in line.

10. Then maybe a small digital camera that records video would be okay...
As long as you aren't taking video of other people.

11. Not as illegal as Vote Stealing and Rigging
Your polling place should have a curtained off area, after that youre on your iown to make the choices you see fit. If your mnachine is screwed up then I would see it your duty as an American ;) to take that photo.

13. Call your local party and Secretary of State's office.
I'd think it would be okay in order to record your OWN vote, but I don't want anyone, even someone I perceive as an ally, to record mine.
