NYT photo essay: Burials in Arlington (get some Kleenex)
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 09:30 PM by Bozita
I'm at a loss for words.

Doug Mills/The New York Times

Sidney Dyer with her mother, Jodi, at Mr. Dyer’s burial. Mr. Dyer, 38, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., was killed in Afghanistan.

1. No father's lap for this little girl to sit on...
No father to pick her up when she scrapes that knee, No father to take her to dance lessons and to video her recital. No father to wait up for her late at night when sh goes out on that first date. No shoulder to cry on when she is dumped by that first boy. No father to teach her to drive stick shift. No father to comfort her when she has a bad day. No father to walk the bride down the isle. No father to become a grandfather.

Makes me think of the special times with my own girls.

11. What the hell is worth THAT?
That little girl's heartbreak alone, even if nothing else in this godforsaken war had ever gone wrong, that little girl's shattered life makes the whole damn thing a monumental abomination. Something that never should've happened, much less for controlling the price of oil (that is what this whole calamity has been about from the get-go).

I remember, back when Clinton was president, whenever Americans died overseas due to some conflict or something related to foreign policy, he would come on the tv THAT NIGHT and express such profound sorrow and tell us what he was gonna do about it. He always reached out to comfort the grief-stricken survivors and the rest who were feeling shaken up. Does anybody else remember that? He really made us feel his heart broke right along with ours.

But this crew? THIS administration? Nothing. Nothing at all from any of them.

I haven't looked at the other pictures yet. I'm bracing myself and trying to put out the flames first.

partner/husband/wife/grandfather/grandmother/niece/nephew/aunt/uncle’s burial. Too many burying their children and grandchildren.

May *co one day soon feel the loved one's and all Iraqi's pain.

Tears for the loved ones in the photos, and tears from the comments in this thread.

6. I think you ask for too much
I don't think Bush has enough humanity to feel pain for what he has done.
I would sooner believe in the easter bunny or the tooth fairy.

7. Take a good look, "conservatives".
...behold the TRUE legacy of your pretend president.

This sociopathic Bush regime will go down in history as the most incompetent, most divisive, most corrupt, most criminal, most hated administration in American history.

Hopefully it will also be the end of the GOP and the "conservative" movement and their Useful Idiots of the Radical Religious Right for the next generation or two.

:puke:

...just so unbelievably heartbreaking.

9. At the very beginning of this stupid war
there was a photo of a mother walking away from her son's burial, clutching the folded flag. The son was maybe 19 or 20, and the attitude of grief in the mother's posture made me cry. I have two sons, now 19 and 23, and so in a way that could have been me. I cannot imagine how anyone can think that any of these soldiers died for a good reason.

12. Oh Sidney Baby, Poor Sweet Baby
No child should ever have to endure such pain and loss. These criminals had better pay for their crimes. MURDERERS!
