3. He's not "a" liberal, but he IS fairly liberal
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 11:21 PM by Bombtrack
He's not into bullshit, and one has to be very into bullshit to not find todays right wing pretty repugnant.

4. No
He tends to be fairly independent. Perhaps a typical Midwest Independent and tends to be cynical. His being frustrated with O'Reilly and current politics doesn't at all make him liberal and I know from past remarks he's not "liberal."

6. Independant is a party registration, not a philosophy
and unfortunately noone has ever tried to debunk a favorite line of bullshit from Bill O'Reilly with that fact, when he claims to be "an independant" to counter acurate charges of his solid right-wing/movement conservative/Bush-ite whoredom

5. No I don't think so
Maybe a Lieberman type liberal
compared to Cheney, yes

He used to frustrate me with his jokes and put-Downs about libs in the 80's and ass-kissing of Republicans on the flip.

He lives a very secretive and private life and he's smart to boot, I admire the man.

13. I thought he was married
to a bit younger woman and they have a son together. I don't watch Letterman a lot but that is what I thought about that. I don't think he is gay unless he's a gay guy who likes to google Britney Spears. I remember a long time ago (recent couple of years) he had Britney on and she was doing her "Slave" song or whatever it was and she did a little dance for him and his eyes were just watching her and you could tell he was drooling.

"He is once divorced, from Michelle Cook and had a long-term relationship with his current show's writer, Merrill Markoe. His longtime fiancée is Regina Lasko, and they have one son, Harry Joseph, born November 3, 2003."

From the always accurate wikipedia. ;-)You never know of course, but I suspect he's just as socially inept as most everyone else. I think he tries very hard to keep his private life private rather than let it become tabloid fodder.

16. okay
Welcome to DU :hi:

Personally, I think Dave has always kept his politics private. However, there comes a time when enough is enough. This is that time.

20. I watched the same show you did
and I thought Letterman beat O'Reilly to a rhetorical pulp. I wish the two of them would mix it up more because it would show O'Reilly for the bloviating fool he is.

11. Letterman just hates to be bullshitted and he believes this administration
is just full of bullshitters.

Notice he only goes after the stupidity. With Bush&Co there is alot of stupidity.

12. I'm not really sure
He could just be a realist and knows what is going on? I'm not sure. I still remember in 2004 he had John Kerry and Green Day on the same night and I loved that. :)

15. Lets just say the interviews he has with left wingers like Gore and Franken
are way different than the interviews he has with right wingers.

17. I think he's a guy who never cared about politics much,
who has seen the damage done to his country by conservatives. And I think there may be a lot of people out there who feel the same way, and will exert themselves to vote the bastards out.

18. I think he is
more liberal than conservative. He sure hates O'Lielly and Rush, and doesn't care much for Bush and Cheney. He doesn't suffer fools gladly.

He still makes tired old Monica jokes. On the other hand, he talks about how interviewing Clinton is like interviewing a force of nature because of Clinton's vast knowledge of basically everything.

19. I think that Letterman cares about the country.
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 12:33 AM by Akoto
Yes, he makes stupid jokes at times, but you can tell when he talks that he does genuinely care for America. I remember the speech he gave when his show first returned after 9/11. He had Dan Rather on, and both of them cried in the course of things.

He's also made no attempts at hiding the fact that he has no respect for the administration, and no respect for right-wing fearmongers like Bill O'Reilly.

Is he a liberal? No idea, but I like Dave a great deal.
