By Leslie Wines, MarketWatch
Last Update: 12:06 PM ET Oct 31, 2006

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Treasury rallied Tuesday, sending the benchmark yield down to a three-week low, after news that U.S. consumer confidence unexpectedly fell this month amid growing pessimism about jobs and the economy.

3. My family was way better off under Clinton
We were also just starting out together with a new house and baby. I did not even have to work then and now I do. Plus my husband actually made a lot less money then. What's up with that??? Their big stock market gains and tax breaks for the rich do nothing for the average person.

4. Exactly
The economy may be "booming", but who's getting the money? The multi-national corporations, maybe, but not the little guy. My wife has been laid off twice since Bush took office, and my salary has gone down, and I'm highly educated with a technical degree.

We scrimp and scrimp. We've been cutting all "extras" we can, we even canceled our cell phones. If this is a booming economy, I'd hate to see the opposite.

5. Amen to that....

I'm about to join the ranks of unemployed, thanks to corporate restructuring. The disconnect from the claims vs. the reality is mind-boggling...

7. I'm no worse off than I was six years ago.
Our household income has increased steadily over the years - both under Clinton and Bush.

But I'm throwing wayyyy more money in savings than I have before. I never was one to shop for pleasure - I actually hate shopping- but now I'm not even willing to part with $1 unless it is absolutely necessary. I'm finding it less and less necessary to spend my cash on any sort of leisure activity. This is the time of year where the household income gets a huge boost. It's all getting socked away.

I'm not pessimistic about my particular economic reality - I'm concerned about the general economy as a whole.
