KERRY: "I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece"

Statement of John Kerry Responding to Republican Distortions, Pathetic Tony Snow Diversions and Distractions

Washington – Senator John Kerry issued the following statement in response to White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, assorted right wing nut-jobs, and right wing talk show hosts desperately distorting Kerry’s comments about President Bush to divert attention from their disastrous record:

“If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.

I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq. It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.

The people who owe our troops an apology are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney who misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it. These Republicans are afraid to debate veterans who live and breathe the concerns of our troops, not the empty slogans of an Administration that sent our brave troops to war without body armor.

Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they’re afraid to debate real men. And this time it won’t work because we’re going to stay in their face with the truth and deny them even a sliver of light for their distortions. No Democrat will be bullied by an administration that has a cut and run policy in Afghanistan and a stand still and lose strategy in Iraq.”

4. Say it on TV John- your supporters/donors already know you are tough.
Come on John- we love the tough internet text- now you need to say this stuff to Wolf Blitzer's suprised, gasping face so that everyone can hear it.

Say THIS paragraph on TV and we will really have something:

"I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq. And John McCain and Jack Abramoff's good friend, John Boehner, have now asked for Kerry to apologize.

Hey, might be a 3 hour shitstorm or more. Media loves that. It might actually get covered. :woohoo:

Republicans with media access demanding apologies is just the way to get this into the echo chamber-it may work.

One way for DEMS to get media exposure is to "fool" the media & Republicans into repeating your "outrageous" statements for you.

Either the strategists finally figured this out or it happened by accident- either way, good stuff!!!

I'd like to see Kerry follow up on an interview show.

257. I've been saying this for years -- the way to make the media cover us right ...
is to get so into the face of the rethugs that they HAVE to respond. By responding, they get Dem talking points into the MSM that otherwise would have been ignored. We must learn to ju-jitsu the media into telling the truth despite its intention to tell only one side -- the lying one.

293. I agree..
Kerry ticked off is the best Kerry gets... I'm not for being pissed, but when it's righteously done, it's powerful. And Kerry has EVERY SINGLE DAMN RIGHT to tell them they never served and that THEY owe the apology....

Of course, this will drum up the repub idiot base, but that's okay, we knew they'd use whatever they could to smear something to get the elderly church goers flustered, so it's going to be a combo of gay marriage and Kerry "troop mocking".

bye bye repub control!

94. I cant prove that- but it has been suggested as a strategic method before.
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 02:42 PM by Dr Fate
You cant refute the fact that one way to get your talking points into the echo chamber is to get people who have better media access (AKA the GOP) to repeat your charges.

If kerry does not know that "hot" statements get attacked as "outrageous" by the media (and therefore get repeated), then he knows now.

Kerry did it once before when he (accidently?) called Republicans "liars" and "crooks" when his mic was supposed to be off.

If you recall-The media then repeated his "outrageous" comments over and over. The only problem that time is he failed to follow uop by continuing to provide examples of those lies & crimes he was refring to.

This "trick"-(if it is indeed a trick)- only works if you follow up. I hope Kerry will.

It is hard to imagine after so many years of THEM tricking US, but I sincerely think that Kerry was ready for this.

And now the debate shifts right back to Iraq. That favors us by a mile.

So keep squawking, pukes, because this time Americans have had it with your whiny, lying asses.

Gore
Wes Clark

in that order for 2008

327. Reverse the order.........
and I'll buy in. Gore is the least of the manly men on your list and the most heavily brokered. Clark is a military man and we all know what Ike had to say about DEM guys. Dean has no protuberences hanging about him and thus nothing to pull on for leverage not to mention that very fact speaks for his superior intelligence. He's a pissed off citizen (like me) with a plan (unlike me) to change things that simply piss him off; sort of a Paul Wellstone with no sense of diplomacy.

I like Mr. Howard for his brashness and utter lack of duplicity. If he wants to scream I'll join in harmony..........it's time to howl at the moon as a chorus

too bad they didn't before. Well, and too bad the elections weren't rigged and tampered with, of course, too.

Anyway...

Damn good of you, Kerry!

I love "Katrina foreign policy"! And that he called Limbaugh "doughy". That's superb!

You rock, Kerry! And I wish you were our president, but alas, you had more votes, and in our post-9-11 world in which everything's changed, that means you lost.

We all had blinders on at one point. Those that perform the best in our system are more likely to have faith in it. Both Kerry and Gore should have won by all accounts, and they didn't have to play dirty or hardball to do it. It should have been enough.

But it wasn't, and now these men know what is at stake.

I do not blame either for the past, and I am glad they are with us now.

70. Hmm.
That seems a little, I don't know. Flippant. Not inaccurate, to be sure, but it's an odd turn of phrase.

Still, the overall piece is very good. The point can't be made often enough that Republicans have no business lecturing anyone on morality or courage or patriotism or fiscal responsibility or honesty or integrity etc. etc. etc.

93. I don't think I expressed myself correctly
I'm trying to imagine the impact if Kerry had described Bush's various disastrous policies as "rape" or "enslavement" or even something like "bitch-slap," as in "Bush's economic agenda bitch-slaps the American worker."

All of these would carry a resonance that, while not strictly inaccurate as descriptors of Bush policy, nonetheless strike me as a trifle insensitive and, well, flippant. "Katrina foreign policy" seems to have a similar (though clearly unintended) tone.

118. I don't equate Kerry's use of the word "Katrina" to slam those victims who
suffered from it. To me, the term "Katrina foreign policy" says in just three words that Bush's foreign policy is clouded & stagnated due to his ineptness & cluelessness in finding solutions.

Btw, I live 20 minutes outside of New Orleans, had wind damage to my property, but didn't suffer like the New Orleanians did. I did have to suffer through all the insensitive Rethug e-mails meant to project blame from Bush. I found them very hurtful. Very hurtful. But I welcome anyone's use of "Katrina" catch phrases when describing this administration's ineptness. It's very, very appropriate, imo.

It's certainly an efficient summation, and if you're comfortable that it won't be misconstrued by people who suffered from Katrina's destruction, then I guess I'm okay with it.

Also, it can't be denied that the phrase works both as a self-contained image and also as an effective reminder of Bush's post-Katrina ineptitude.

171. I think most Katrina survivors (& a lot are still struggling for normalcy) would
welcome the analogy between the way Bush mishandled Katrina & the way he mishandles every other aspect of his job. Just as they have become a victim of his ineptness, so have those troops who have no choice but to serve Bush's failed policy in Iraq as sitting ducks.

And just as he thought Brownie was doing a heck-of-a-job, he thinks the same of Rummy.

And whenever he attends a speaking engagement, it sounds like a campaign speech. He clearly has shown that he represents the interests of Republicans only (well, the rich ones, which seems to fly over the head of the average Faux News viewer). All non-Republicans have had no president for the past 6 years.

Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 10:36 PM by Cappadonna
When third world countries like Sri Lanka and Thailand can clean up after the Tsunami adn Cuba evacuate their people before a hurricane, it just make the Bush team look even stupider that several thousand people died or were left homeless after Katrina. It shows a lack of organizational skills and forward think usually reserved for children with learning disabilties and and elderly people in the last stages of Alzhiemer's. Let these nitwits run a war and you have Iraq and Afghanistan.

61. Snowjob's comment at the press conference simply confirmed Kerry's joke...
but of course no one at the WH can grasp that, since they couldn't comprehend Kerry's statement in the first place.

Then he (Kerry) said: "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

Snow said the quote "fits a pattern" of negative remarks from Kerry about U.S. soldiers and suggested that whether Democratic candidates - particularly those running on their military service backgrounds - agree with their 2004 standard-bearer should be a campaign litmus test.

http://www.examiner.com/a-371770~White_House_Spokesman_Slams_Kerry_Remark.html

Snowjob just illustrated that he and everyone else in the WH involved with his comment didn't make the most of their education since they didn't understand that Kerry was talking about the pResident, not the troops. Those guys never cease to amaze me on so many levels.

294. The White House
knew exactly what Kerry meant. They just went into their standard
panties-in-a-bunch hissy fit. The feigned indigence is SOP for these jerkoffs. Remember when Kerry made a reference to Mary Cheney's sexual orientation during a debate and the immediate press conference by the Cheney family afterward where they called Kerry a bad man for stating the truth. Sound and fury spoken by idiots signifying nothing.
Kerry and all of us have to stay on the attack and get in Republican faces at every opportunity. Hammer these punks like flat head nails. Piss on them; shit on them; never let up until they are on the run.
If Barbara Bush had only swallowed we wouldn't have all the problems we have today(special thanks to Trent Lott for that last one). Rumsfeld, Bush and Cheney (Rummy, The Dummy and Dick, Oh my) owe the troops and humanity an apology for the crimes they've committed.
John McCain is so terrified of the Bush crime family he just does what ever he's told to do. His recent behavior indicates he's unfit to hold public office. He attacked someone he's called a friend for what he perceives is cheap political gain. Poor John McCain jumped the shark when he hugged Bush at the Repube convection in 04.
The message is that we will not be intimidated by Republikkklan scumbags. Those who stand for nothing will fall for anything.
And when engaging a Repunk always ask for the source of their information.

As to McCain... I think I'll write him tonight. Hillary too. They're both whoring themselves out in their quest for the presidency and it's sickening. They should be better than that. But it seems all they care about is power.

308. WOW!
This is the best picture of the Bush WMIHD (WIreless Magnetic Induction Hearing Device) ever! The outline is very clear, not blurred as in the first NY Times picture. The Dems should use these pictures as campaign material in the next few days before Nov. 7.
Kerry has turned what could have been a political embarrassment into a personal triumph. On first hearing, it sounded like it was an inadvertent put-down of the troops who are serving and dying in Iraq, and election fodder for the WH via Tony Snow. John Kerry turned 180 degrees, from a wimp image into a viable candidate for '08. Let's hear more of this from Kerry going forward.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2006/10/ford_uses_foley.html
"I'm not going to take a lecture on morality from a party that took hush money from a child predator," said Ford Wednesday in Memphis, TN after speaking to the downtown Kiwanis Club.

George Bush didn't do well enough in school to understand the complexities of the region, much less to understand he can't just beat people up to get his way. Kerry has said what he meant to say, but he is not going to apologize to a bunch of liars who pretend to support the troops.

139. I wouldn’t be lectured by a racist either.
“Stormfront, a racist, NeoNazi, hate organization, features Tony Snow”

-He wrote an article calling Kwanzaa a fake holiday as well as saying several other racist things: “The fact is, there is no Ur-African culture. The continent remains stubbornly tribal. Hutus and Tutsis still slaughter one another for sport.”

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1033612

http://www.amptoons.com/blog/archives/2006/06/11/is-tony-snow-press-secretary-to-the-pres-a-racist/

Notice how Mr. Snow ignores colonialism. Maybe that is at least partially responsible for the chaos in Africa, rather than the supposed fact that they like to “slaughter one another for sport.”

179. No, we went into Iraq because bush wanted to.
The administration constantly cherry picked information and lied about the war. That’s a common WH talking point. Hmmm….a nation 1/3 the population of Iran, crippled by over a decade of sanctions just six months away from a nuclear device. When Iran, which has a much larger population, greater wealth and has been working on one for years is still 4-10 years away. That’s not an intelligence failure, no one is that incompetent; that’s a lie designed to convince the public that war was the only option. By the way, the weapons inspectors were allowed back in before the war and they said that there were probably NO WMDs! Which was conveniently ignored.

194. Here you go.

SENATOR LEAHY: Vice President Cheney – nice to see you, sir.

THE VICE PRESIDENT: You know I don't appreciate you shining a spotlight on my blatant conflicts of interest with Halliburton, Senator. Just because I'm still paid hundreds of thousands of dollars every year from Halliburton, doesn't mean I don't make one hell of an effort to keep others from flaunting my utter contempt for the very notion of ethics. So when you remind voters that where there's a thick plume of foul-smelling smoke, there's obviously fire, I don't like it, Pat.

SENATOR LEAHY: I'm really sorry you feel that way, Mr. Vice President. It sounds like you feel a bit like I do when you cast aspersions on my morality and patriotism, sir. I don't like that, either.

THE VICE PRESIDENT: Fuck off.

SENATOR LEAHY: Pardon me?

THE VICE PRESIDENT: You heard me, Vermonster. Pull that fucking hemp thong out of your gaping, maple-syrup-gushing man cunt and fuck off. Asshole.

192. Kerry's not running for office this year
We would all be better served if those candidates gunning for 2008 would please shut up and stay quietly on the sidelines until after Nov. 7.

It was a stupid remark, off the cuff at time when Dems can't afford fuck ups.

This pisses me off - a stupid ass mistake close to the election.

296. Agree, Attributing his "if you don't study & get good grades"
"explanation" as being aimed at Bush only works if his own Yale grades were higher than Bush's. As we know from the 2004 campaign, they were not.

John, you are not going to be the nominee in 2008 - please let us run this one without you. And please ...STFU!

317. Although it's irrelevent, Kerry's grades likely were higher
Because Yale changed their grading method in Bush's senior year, the newspapers compared the first THREE years they were in school. Kerry had an abysmal Freshman year (likely because he played 4 sports, was on the debate team, in the political union, had an active social life and a part tiem job). He got progressively better - and Yale seemed unconcerned as he continued all his activities). Bush's grades were about the same throughout.

It is highly likely that had they found a way to add the 4th year (Kerry's best), he would have been higher for the 4 years. (Not to mention - if you eliminate the Freshman year - which is often done by both higher education people and employers - Kerry was substanially higher.

The other thing is that Kerry, who obviously didn't apply himself in college, did apply himself in the Navy, Law school, as a prosecutor and a legislator.

Bush also had a major problem with drugs and alcohol, which Kerry didn't.

At any rate, re-read the debates - there is no comparison - Kerry is better informed, has better solutions and is in 2006 a smarter man.

Come on, John! Call this asshole a COWARD. It's what he is. Everyone on earth knows it, but no one will say it.

COWARD.

John Kerry and John Murtha and Max Cleland need to tell George W. Bush and Tony Snow to stop hiding behind our soldiers and Marines.

Using our soldiers and Marines as shields against criticism for their catastrophic policies is COWARDLY and UNMANLY. And it proves that George W. Bush is still the coward he was during the Vietnam War.

170. With all due respect
Kerry mis-spoke and he started a shit-storm. I watched the way MSNBC is playing this, and they are basically buying into the Snow interpretation of Kerry's comments. Kudos to Kerry for fighting back, but, taken out of context, like the way it is shown on MSNBC makes it look like Kerry was slamming the troops. I don't think his plan was to mis-speak so he would get attacked and then come back fighting mad. He screwed up and it could hurt the dems.

185. Agreed
Even if it is to just clarify his initial statement as not being aimed at the troops but at Bush, I think that Kerry should apologize.

The way the spin is going, this could hurt the Dems next week, and I think Kerry should put aside his pride and think of what is best for the nation.

I'm gauging this on my initial gut reaction to this comment, and I think that without sufficient explanation--and hearing it out of context--it can be seen as an attack on the troops.

And the sad thing is that the same behavior that almost everyone hear is celebrating (don't apologize and attack bush) is--from what I'm seeing on polls--making Bush look like the person who cares more about the troops than Kerry.

I know that it's wrong, but perception is everything. I just hope that it's not too late for Kerry to make things right before Nov. 7th.

Who knew that Kerry would be the GOP's October Surprise.

I really don't understand all of those here who are congratulating themselves over this. Kerry stepped in it and with a week to go, the media is focusing on whether or not the Democrats hate the troops. This is bull shit and Kerry should have known better. This is why he can't win a national election. He has all the charisma of a wolverine. Perhaps he can repair the damage with a few dozen six syllable words. That should play well in Kansas.

Yes, I know he's right, but that's besides the point. The average american will see this a a slap at those who are currently serving in Iraq. And why shouldn't they? Many of them volunteered out of sincere patriotism. The fact that they were mislead is irrelevant, at this point. They die, and Kerry pokes fun at them. Way to go, John.

210. Isn't this really about the DRAFT?

No doubt there are many well-trained soldiers in Iraq, and many who have been lured into the military by promises of advancing their education and who are proceeding along that track.

BUT, because Bush has screwed up so badly in Iraq, war-weary soldiers are being killed at increasing rates. Add to this the potential for war with Iran, and only a draft will fill the quotas necessary to ensure any kind of long-term success. Many well-educated college age students, who have no intentions of pursuing a military career, will then be faced with the prospect of "getting stuck" over there. This is the tragedy of an inept presidency.

These people have no sense of shame or decency. It is time to consign them to institutions where they'll be confronted with their despicable crimes for the rest of their days- and beyond.

And I say this because if you look it how the repubs play the homeland security issue, it only boldens that view when the dems say nothing. In other words, if the dems can't defend themselves, how can they defend the country? For some undecided voters who don't follow things closely, that's all they hear.

228. Owch! Those are fighting words!
And they are deserved. John Kerry is tough as nails and the Republicans are afraid of him. They were too quick to jump on this, I suspect.

In attacking Kerry, they don't realize that they also attacked all liberals, democrats, progressives and people fed up over this unnecessary war. Kerry was clearly attacking Bush on the war. They want to use this on November 7th, but America is wiser and frankly far more disgusted with this kind of nonsense than ever before.

The republicans are only digging themselves in deeper and Kerry is taking every advantage to strike back. This is a dog fight now and the sensationalism is getting Kerry airtime that he wouldn't have had otherwise. Big error in judgement on Rove's part.

240. Politically, it was a stupid remark
Regardless of whether Kerry was referring to Bush and not the troops getting stuck in Iraq, the fact is that the remark will be viewed by a lot of people as an insult to the troops. The rethugs will do everything in their power to frame it that way, and to focus attention on John Kerry and away from their own failures.

I don't know if it will do them any good, but it certainly doesn't help our cause. It's easy for us to be in John's corner and get fired up in the heat of battle, but the REAL battle is over the voters who haven't decided HOW to vote or WHETHER to vote. We're counting on some voters who have to hold their nose to vote for a Democrat, and some of them will be turned off by Kerry's remark. We also need rethug voters to stay home, and the GOP will try to use this to get them fired up and to the polls.

Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 08:51 PM by file83
More importantly, how could you not understand it?

Kerry was very clear, he said Bush got us ("us" meaning America as a Nation - that includes EVERYONE) stuck in Iraq.

The people that you speak of, the ones that could interpret it as being against the troops are the 33% of hard core dipshit nutbags who will NEVER stop supporting Bush and the war - so who cares what they think?

Those people spin bullshit from NOTHING - so, I wouldn't worry about how it could be "misinterpreted" - just worry about what you should understand from the clear words Kerry layed in front of you.

270. Sorry, but Kerry's remark was NOT clear ...
... if all you hear is the following:
"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

I've seen that clip a handful of times on TV today, and the only commentator I saw who put it into the context that both you and I understand was Keith Olberman. The plain fact of the matter is that most people will take that remark at its apparent face value, and many will also hear demands from rethugs calling for Kerry to apologize. The phrase I emphasized in bold will not sit well with the voters who will swing a few key elections.

In terms of electoral politics it does not matter that Kerry was referring to Bush, not our troops. In politics, perception is reality. To the extent this incident affects the midterm elections, it will have a negative effect for us.

The sky is not falling, but you're sticking your head in the sand if you don't think Kerry's botched joke has been a gift to the rethugs. It's a minor screw-up, but they'll squeeze it for all it's worth.

I don't know what kind of "type" you think I am, but I took time off work 2 years ago and travelled to Ohio to help get out the vote for Kerry. I try to never miss an opportunity to persuade people how important it is to restore checks & balances to our government in the form of a Democratic congress. You seem to be the "type" to flame someone before giving serious thought to the merits of an argument or the motives behind it.

We need to be smart to win elections. Kerry's screw-up was not smart.

243. Wrong emphasis
"If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy." Maybe crazy, but they have a memory. JK criticized both Vietnam Vets and Iraq vets. If you don't believe me go to your local VFW post and check it out. Perception is reality in politics.
"You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don't, you get stuck in Iraq," I'm not an English major but this seems pretty clear. No mention of Bush. "You" refers to the students. If you think this is a Kerry win, you are sadly mistaken. And the more he tries to explain it (from a bad joke to I won't apologize) the more he makes it worse. Rove couldn't have scripted this better if he had tried. This is a no win for the Dems because it takes the emphasis off the "stay the course" war and puts it on the troops.

up on the Republicans the real question is how the MSM will spin this and how long they will play it on TV. The impact on the undecided and moderate voters is what we need to worry about. A Democratic congressman has already canceled a campaign appearance by Kerry citing the "inappropriateness of his remarks".

"In Iowa, a spokesman for Democratic congressional candidate Bruce Braley said Braley had decided independently to cancel an event with Kerry scheduled for Thursday. Braley, who is running against Republican Mike Whalen in the state's 1st District, said in a statement that the White House and Kerry should stop bickering and focus on how to change course in Iraq."

309. I don't know what local VFWs you go to...
...but the ones I have gone to are in favor of Kerry. The are very well aware of the cuts they have had in their VA benefits and how it has been literally an act of gawd for some of them who are very ill to get treatment at a VA hospital ~~ even those who have service related disabilities. You think they all have short memories? They know what it was like with Clinton and they know what it has been like under that asshole Bush. Most of them are also VERY aware that US soldiers were sent to die for LIES.

I am of the Vietnam War protest era...and I can tell you that the Vets who are my age know what BS is coming out of Washington and the WH. They are not as stupid as you think. Try giving the vets some credit instead of insulting their intelligence by thinking that they would not support someone who speaks the truth. What Kerry said does not down them ~~ it supports them and anyone with a brain knows this.

I doubt if you have ever been in a uniform ~~ let alone gone to any place where vets hang out. You think anyone who served in combat in Vietnam thinks it was a real treat to do this ~~ then IMO you are full of it to the max. Just like Vietnam ~~ Iraq is an IMMORAL war. Try taking a look at some history books, OK? Those who were in charge back then admit it was a mistake...and the documents which have been de-classified support each and every statement Kerry made in his Senate testimony. He spoke the truth then...he speaks the truth now. It takes a BRAVE man to do what he has done.

And, yep, you sure and NOT an English major. Try looking at the CONTEXT, OK?

Here are two suggestions for you. Don't think for someone else, it will make you look either arrogant or stupid. Second, proofread your post before you post it. Check out your last line (just a little help from the non-English major).

263. In his statement, Kerry told the truth, and a lot of people
don't like that. As reported:

According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the senator {Kerry) took the stage to roaring applause before regaling the crowd with one-liners, Bush barbs and tales of surfing at nearby Mission Beach.

He then said: "You know, education -- if you make the most of it, you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well.

"If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

What Kerry said was true. It is also true that there probably are a few Mensa members walking around Iraq with M16s locked and loaded simply because in addition to being brilliant, some Mensa members are also nuts. It is nevertheless true that if in fact you are not able to navigate the educational system, your odds of finding yourself in a fire fight in Iraq increase significantly even without an official draft just as they did in Vietnam. It is not an insult to the troops anymore than it is an insult to be blue collar. It is just the way things are with the American military. If you have a degree or better yet a graduate degree (or in W's case, a degree from an Ivy League school bought for you by your father because you were too stupid to earn it), the chances of your getting your ass shot off in some war for profit go down considerably. Kerry told the truth. There is no reason for him to apologize.

264. CNN’s Slander of Kerry continues
On Andersen Cooper they had two people (both saying the same thing - more like Faux everyday) that Kerry’s comments were “bizarre” and “the gift that keeps on giving.” Fools. Every time they talk about this they also have to mention Iraq, which isn’t going so well right now.

What’s so bizarre is that he dared to speak truth to power, something they never do - or when that Faux news zombie Tony Snow or that draft dodger Bush questioned his character, he struck back.

Remember, when we get the power, we must break up these media monopolies: Time Warner, Viacom, Disney, News corporation, GE. Then, maybe, they’ll be less inclined to push the Bush agenda.

271. Let the crying GOP assholes whine
Kerry has nothing to apologize for. Nothing if you take his remarks as an attack on Bush, and nothing if you take his remarks as an "attack" against the troops. Bush has killed over 2700 U.S. troops with his fraudulent little war, and for his asslicking flunkies to shriek and demand apologies from a member of the other party - who had nothing to do with this failed, doomed disaster - only illustrates what a sewer they've dug and are wallowing in, while stubbornly insisting their suits are clean and they smell just fine!

I think this country has moved past the point where it's willing to spend weeks and months obsessively analyzing someone's "offensive" comments about Iraq. It is the Iraq situation that is offensive. It is the people who spawned it who are offensive. It is the media shills/propagandists/mindless asshole talk radio know-nothings who are offensive. It is the too-stupid-to-zip-their-pants Bush voters who continue to refuse to accept reality and who go around cheerleading for a bunch of deceitful pricks who not only take their base for granted but ridicule them (witness Rove's recent comments about the religious wackos who vote GOP) who are offensive. All of these groups should apologize not only for their fraudulent and dishonest viewpoints, but for ever having squirmed out of their mothers uteruses to infect this world with their presence in the first place. And to fully apologize for their actions they should find the nearest handgun, insert it into their mouths, and pull the triggers so as to guarantee making the world a better place.

Anyone who worries that this will tip the balance back towards the GOP next Tuesday: please wake up. Do you really think that the pissed off voters out there, who have had enough of the nonstop bullshit and juvenile antics of Bush and his toadies, are going to hear Kerry's remarks and have a change of heart, such that they run out to vote Republican in a week? Please. If the compulsion to vote out the Repuke turds is that tenuous, that fragile, that ready to turn on a dime, then obviously the events of the past 6 years haven't fully sufficed to show Joe Voter what bad people these are, that they can be swayed in seven days, or 1/362nd the time. I have little to no faith in the intellect of the average American voter, but even I can't conceive this will change a damned thing next Tuesday.

Enjoy Kerry's comments, and stop worrying about the fallout. That's playing the game by the rules the Republican assholes are always trying to set, whereby they can say or do whatever the hell they want, to anyone they please, but God forbid anyone should fight back, speak out, or stand up, because the GOP will shamelessly try to eviscerate these critics with lots of hysterical outcries. Fuck them, and fuck their bullying, hypocritical tactics.

313. Kerry's goose is cooked.
Whether or not he meant it, what Kerry said wasn't far from the truth. It's hardly an original idea: lack of education = reduced prospects = cannon fodder. Urging studying as a means to avoid ending up in imperialism's meat grinder is actually good advice.

But within seconds of uttering it, he must have realized that he'd committed the most unpardonable of sins: speaking the truth about the nature of our "volunteer" military.

And as so often with Kerry, there's always an escape hatch: oh, no no noo, he didn't mean it, he bungled a joke, etc. Heh. What a putz. Goodbye, Kerry in '08.

I'm going to get slammed here but... we now have a big problem. A huge problem. I hope I'm wrong.

EVERY single MSM outlet is now covering this from a Republican spin viewpoint as their TOP STORY.

It doesn't matter at this point how Kerry tries to explain what he meant to say, because the MSM is doing a Rove number on the story... Big Time.

It makes me sick to my stomach to read and hear what I am reading and hearing today.

We now have a big problem, and the entire Democratic Party better put their heads together and figure out the best approach to take in a hurry.

Don't get me wrong -- Kerry did nothing wrong. His response was correct -- he really gave them hell. But the one thing we can't really control is the MSM's reaction to it.

If this remains the top MSM topic for the next 7 days, we have big big trouble.

And remember -- even if it does not change many votes, it can still be used as THE SMOKESCREEN to explain drastic shifts in election results versus polls. Oh -- Blackwell was down 30% and yet won the Governor's election in Ohio? MSM parrots in unison: "It was Kerry's comment".
