How does the GOP know they're winning in the early voting?
The votes don't get counted early. They don't believe in polls because they're just a 'snapshot'. It's not 72 hours before November 7th, so they haven't even started their GOTV yet.

How do they know this with such certainty?

6. totally agree - Rovian psychology plays are part of the grand scheme
that makes them so good at winning/manipulating elections.

4. Where does it say that they are winning? The reason they would
say that is to discourage Democrats who may think their vote won't count.

11. I'm starting to think that would backfire though
Maybe I'm just convincing myself of it, but it might very well motivate people (Dems and Indys) to go out and vote just to watch Bush etal eat crow.

7. That is a Karl Rove tactic to convince Repub voters to turn out
Votes are not counted until the polls close tuesday the 7th
But bo doubt every corporate media outlet will be reporting this..

9. That's my thought about it, provided of course
that the votes are on the up and up (which is questionable).

But in one sense, I would think that it would energize Democrats and Indys to be sure and show up on November 7th in droves, and likewise the Cons may think they can just stay home because Karl already wrapped everything up in the early voting.

ACK!!! My head's starting to hurt.

28. There will be so much BS come across the wire this week and week-end
nothing will surprise me..Republicans will unload every thing they have in their arsenal. Its not just about losing an election, its the fear of all the corruption being uncovered once the Democrats take over.

13. But is it to scare the base, or to tell them to be part of the 'team'?
If he were saying the Dems are having and advantage in the early voting but they're going to exceed expectations on November 7th...well, then, I'd think he's trying to scare them.

But, he is saying the GOP is ahead...So how would he know it's the GOP that's ahead? They don't trust exit polls, supposedly.

12. Where did it say they were winning?
All I saw was an article saying that their efforts to get absentee ballots into folks' hands and then to get them mailed in was on the uptick and ahead of schedule. The election machine on their side is pretty good at this to be honest. But thankfully, we're catching up.

16. I've been hearing it all morning on the cables
MSNBC and CNN. The 'guests' are asking if it's just a Rove tactic (which it is). But, that's the point. It's a tactic, not a fact.

indicate that people are finally on to Rove? Hell hath no fury like a people who realize they've been lied to.

20. In some instances, they can know it pretty easy
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 02:13 PM by RGBolen
Say, that I'm running for congress, I have 10,000 people that have requested absentee ballots with my staff's assistance during the week 13,000 absentee have been received by the various parish or county clerks, odds are pretty good I'm winning that. Also if they are voting at stations, my poll watchers are checking off names as they are called out, out of how ever many people are voting 50 to 60% are people that have personally told us they are voting for me or have let us put up yard signs or given us $10 or $100 then we are pretty sure we are winning there too.
