Laura Bush on Michael J. Fox: ‘It’s Always Easy To Manipulate People’s Feelings’
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 02:36 PM by RedEarth
In an interview on C-Span, First Lady Laura Bush was asked about Michael J Fox’s advocacy for candidates who support embryonic stem cell research. Mrs. Bush responded that it was wrong for Fox and others to suggest that increased support for embryonic stem cell research could lead to cures for Alzheimer’s and other diseases.

She concluded with a thinly veiled critique of Fox: “It’s always easy to manipulate people’s feelings, especially when you are talking about diseases that are so difficult.”

Transcript:

Q: One of the issues that’s come up. Michael J. Fox. The whole issue of stem cell research. Your reaction to the events of the past week.

LAURA BUSH: Well, I don’t have any idea about any of those. I mean, I’ve watch on television just like you have. But the fact is President Bush is the only president that authorized funding for stem cell research. And, um, you know, it’s an issue that it’s easy to try to manipulate people’s feelings about and I understand that. My dad died of Alzheimer’s. You know, there’ s nothing I’d like more than to think there was a cure for Alzheimer’s. Especially before I get to be the age he is, but knowing also how he suffered. It’s always easy to manipulate people’s feelings, especially when you are talking about diseases that are so difficult.

since Bush and the Republicans failed to defend America on Sept 11, 2001?

4. The manipulation of the feelings of others is what codependents are
... experts on. Laura is the "enabler in chief" - part of one of the most emotionally codependent families on the planet who has, together with the daughters she's spawned, become a supplier to a pathological narcissist.

6. Consistent conservatism - fuck medical research
laura, you like lynn, are an ignorant slut. Why shouldn't a man suffering from a debilitating disease "suggest" that medical research might someday lead to a cure (long after he is dead?) I guess he should be like a fucking "conservative" stick his head in the sand and blow up the research clinics. Sluts like you would have urged Edison to stop with the silly nonsense of a lightbulb.

Did you run over your old boyfriend because he was attempting to better himself?

8. She's sold as this sweet librarian lady, but she's actually a nasty piece of work...
...and a dirty liar:

"Contrary to the first lady's claim, George W. Bush was not, in fact, the first president to "authorize" funding for stem cell research. According to a policy brief prepared by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the National Institutes of Health -- "with the backing of President Clinton" -- issued guidelines and solicited applications for stem cell research grants in 2000. As Kyla Dunn has written, "If the Bush administration had done nothing, the NIH would have proceeded to review the applications and to finance those that were successful."

But the Bush administration didn't "do nothing." It suspended the Clinton administration's guidelines after the 2000 election, and then Bush replaced them with much more restrictive rules of his own. When Congress tried to ease the president's limits earlier this year, Bush responded with the first veto of his presidency."

This is the person who refused to shake Stephen Colbert's hand after the WH Correspondents Dinner--not even her weaselly husband was so petty.

12. She didn't shake Colbert's hand
after the WH Correspondents Dinner, huh...
Can't say that's a shock, after the awesome smackdown he gave the WH. But, oddly enough, that means she must have been surprised that Colbert was not actually a fan of theirs!

32. the bush* clan consider themselves the true American aristocrats
and heirs to the throne. The Reagans were just hired help that forget their true station. Or at least Nancy did, Ronnie just forgot everything. Babs considered Nancy a B-movie strumpet who sucked her way up the ladder. In private Babs treated Nancy shoddily, even more so when bush*I had his four years.

41. And if you are into the tinfoil hat stuff...
there are some people who think the Bush's might have been involved in the assassination attempt on Ronnie. They were more than just casual acquaintances of the Hinkley's, and there are some other circumstantial things. Do some googling on it sometime, it's pretty spooky.

21. Do I hear an echo...?
...the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."

29. Laura Bush is not the nice person that the RW Corp Media
keeps pushing on Amerika. She is the Bush Regime's Stealth Weapon. Underneath that "sweet" exterior is a jackal. She is as putrid and phony as The Silver spoon Sociopath that has occupied the White House.

35. I have a theory as to why Laura moved to the Mayflower Hotel.
I don't think it's because they separated. Remember all those bruises * used to get? Have you noticed since she's no longer in the White House residence that he hasn't gotten any more bruises? He's still as goofy and medicated as ever.

Could it be that the Secret Service forcibly removed her from the White House because she was beating up on him for drinking? I think that it might be a reason.

Any whistle blowers out there on the domestic staff? I'm sure one of the tabloids would love the scoop.

33. My thoughts exactly.
How can she talk about something that she knows nothing about, feelings. She's a hard and unfeeling bitch. The time she referred to Hurricane Katrina as Hurricane Corinna, just shows how deep her feelings are not and how mentally distant she really is from any concerns.
