"John Kerry Comment/Joke Controvery Megathread" Consolidate the threads here for Christ's sake
Can we just have one of these threads and scrub the rest? I hate how 20 threads pop up on DU within a matter of minutes.

Ok, now for the controversy. I personally think this is going to end up biting Republicans if they try to make a media blitz out of the issue, largely because they're giving Kerry free air time to attack the Bush administration, and most Americans, when they hear the words, will naturally interpret them as a joke and the Republicans will come off as stiff asses. People aren't that stupid. Don't believe it? George Allen is now losing in Virginia. Rasmussen is reporting that most voters think Allen was wrong to put those out-of-context passages up in campaign ads and think Webb had justifiable reason for writing them:

Most importantly, it's time for people to get a god damned grip. Everyone on the forum freaked out when the gay marriage decision in New Jersey came down. Do you see anyone on Fox, CNN or MSNBC talking about it? Nope. It died within a matter of hours, it's only alluded it once in a while, but it lost its punch within minutes.

This will pass as well, and probably quicker, since Republicans don't want to give Kerry free air time to trash Rumsfield and Bush. Because if you let Kerry talk, guess what happens? YOu change the focus BACK TO IRAQ.

And we all know what's going to happen if voters go to the polls on November 7 thinking about Iraq.
