BREAKING REUTERS: American citizen Jose Padilla was tortured:
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 03:26 PM by originalpckelly
MIAMI (Reuters) - Lawyers for alleged al Qaeda operative Jose Padilla have asked a Florida judge to dismiss the terrorism case against him, saying he was tortured and force-fed psychedelic drugs while held at a U.S. military brig for more than 3-1/2 years.

"The torture took myriad forms, each designed to cause pain, anguish, depression and ultimately, the loss of will to live," Padilla's attorney's said in the motion for dismissal filed in Miami federal court earlier this month.

"Often he had to endure multiple interrogators who would scream, shake and otherwise assault Mr. Padilla," his lawyers said. "Additionally, Mr. Padilla was given drugs against his will, believed to be some form of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) or phencyclidine (PCP), to act as a sort of truth serum during his interrogations."

Presiding U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke on Monday gave the U.S. attorney's office until November 14 by to respond to Padilla's allegations, according to an order released by the court."

Oh no, they'd never do this to an American citizen.

1. I'm sorry, this story must be a mistake
I've read on both FR and The Cesspool that the government would never torture American citizens, and only use such techniques on terrorists when lives are immediately at risk. So, I'm sure his story must be in error.

:sarcasm:

Of course it's an error.
Our leader says that we do not torture. So there. Of course, all options are on the table.

10. Well I said it first "'We do not torture', is the new 'I'm not a crook.'"
And it was actually on CNN.

24. Thanks, that's what I wanted to know. CNN and others need a megaphone
on this.

Remember, if you don't find an article on this in your local paper, you can locate the Reuter's article, call the WIRE EDITOR of your local paper, and ask that it be reported.

It works.

25. I sent it in to Jack Cafferty last week when the VP admitted to torturing...
detainees. Yep, I coined the phrase, and I have to say I'm damn proud of it. Use it!

17. Who knew tortures and hippies would ever have something in common?
So freakin' weird. But if the government is using it, one has to wonder why the CIA "abandoned" its MK-Ultra bullshit in the '50s. MK-UlTRA is back!

The drawing on the right is the police sketch drawn from description of the witnesses that said McViegh had an accomplice.

Just saying, there is more to this than meets the eye. He obviously wasn't guilty of the dirty bomb BS, but he sure was on their radar. Something just doesn't add up, but the math is starting to become clearer.

11. Brought to you by the people (?) who say that Liberals are godless
Hey, all of you lurkers, a few points:

a) Torture does not work--a person will say anything to get the torture to stop.

b) We are a nation of laws. The definition of what it means to be an American is contained within our Constitution. When we decide that we no longer need that document, then we have injured America in a way that Osama bin Laden never could have the power to do himself.

16. Al-Qaeda can kill Americans, but only we can be afraid of them...
or surrender our nation, our way of life to that fear. The cowards who march around thumping Bibles, false Christians, they ask this nation to sell its soul in order to save our worldly self. That is nothing but pure evil.

12. I already knew he was tortured.
Didn't everybody? I thought that was well known. Or did I just assume that they tortured him? That says something sad when a citizen just assumes that his government is torturing prisoners. And then turns out to be right. That's really sad.

Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 03:52 PM by originalpckelly
not all of us know (or in this case knew.)

There should be a "things you should know" sticky on DU. It could have links to this kind of stuff.

Oh and I call bullshit on the Acid and Angel Dust. I have done both drugs and know for a fact that neither acts as a "truth serum". I'm sure the Govt has figured this out by now and doubt highly they use them to "torture" people.

Oh, how the people would point and laugh whenever the subject of MK-ULTRA was ever brought up. They would call you things like moonbat, or worse. Come to think of it, the same people who would dismiss out of hand any involvement in 911 by our govt are likely the same types who scoffed at any suggestion that their precious US government was conducting experiments in mind control. Kinda makes you think...

there have been television documentaries about it. I wonder if the CIA simply kept this stuff on the back burner waiting for a President fucked up enough to use it to come to power.
