Repugs asking: "If it was a joke, why didn't he correct himself yesterday..."
"...when he made the mistake?"

Uh...excuse me, repugs...

If you are genuinely so outraged, why didn't you explode in unison YESTERDAY, before you got Karl's marching orders?

1. The audience laughed. They got the joke.
Hence, no need to correct himself because the administration hadn't figured out a way to distort his comments.

2. It took them a day to understand the slam against their leader. Not
the sharpest tacks in the carpet.

7. Because either version is true.
Both versions of Kerry's comments -- the intended and the actual -- are completely true.

Even if he screwed up what he meant to say, what he did say is the truth, too, so why "fix" it?

And now, thanks to the reTHUG noise machine, both versions are in the news.

Way to go!

:D

8. like the slip-up in "One small step for man, a giant leap for mankind...."
Sometimes correcting oneself seems--at least at the time--like taking the air out of the point you were trying to make. Given Kerry's audience, he would have assumed that they knew what he meant, just like everybody knew what Neil Armstrong meant.

Also, your point is an excellent one, Atman!
