Kerry was right in saying, of Bush, that an Ivy League education won't help you if you insist on being a moron.

Kerry wasn't "right" about enlistment patterns, recruiting standards, graduation rates, class structure or any of this other stuff. All valid points, I'm sure. Senator Kerry probably has a lot of good things to say on those topics. but they have nothing to do with what Kerry said. They have to do with what Republicans claim Kerry said.

I'm tired of the RW creating these narratives that we buy into. They say "Kerry was talking about the troops" and we rise to the debate by defending his comments about the troops that he has explained WERE NOT ABOUT THE TROOPS.

Why not take the guy at his word and leave the psychic readings of what Kerry "really" meant to the bad guys?

1. Well obviously the media work for the "bad guys"
That's not a surprise.

2. They know precisely how to control the media.
Shit builds up so high that they can't ignore it. The media decide it's a good story and pick up on it. But they are still so controlled by the Republican spinmeisters. They don't even care if what they are saying is true. They just want a good story.

3. I don't know what he "meant" but what he "said" is sad but true
Does anyone actually believe that graduates of Ivy League universities are running down to their local recruiting office to get sent to Iraq. Do they think the recruiters target college grads or even high school seniors with good grades? Those with no future are cannon fodder. It was the same when I was drafted over 40 years ago. I was a HS grad with crappy grades and no prospects and I was just what they were lookin for. Fortunately I never had to go anywhere where somebody was trying to kill me but a couple of years later I would've.

4. Perhaps Kerry was hinting
at a draft in the future if the GOP retains power and Bush's folly continues?

Not a bad point to bring to the table right before a crucial election.
