Apparently people can't handle the truth and prefer to live in a fairy tale land where Saddam was performing fellatio for Osama Bin Ladin in exchange for tactical nukes he had and we are bringing peace and prosperity to the Iraq people and the world by occupying Iraq.

The truth is the vast majority of army recruiters pray on poor youth with no other options. In fact, the army was so pressed for recruits they lowered the entrance exam requirements to meet their recruitment goals. They are getting the most desperate people with no other options.

Iraq is like a prison sentence for the poor and uneducated. Very sad.

I can't believe the number of people here who are buying into the Republican spin on this.

18. that is all it is spin.
kerry was only telling the truth his comment had nothing to do with the troops, that is how the right spinned it to sound like he does not care about the troops, they (repigs) like to make up their own reality.

by instilling the fear in them that they can't get a job in the real world.

It's sickening.

I think serving is noble - but not under this WAR CRIMINAL we currently have occupying OUR White House.

They are just cannon fodder for this dictator wannabe...

He has sent THOUSANDS to their death for NOTHING - for a fucking LIE - THAT'S what makes my blood boil...

19. Is that true?
If so how disgusting but not surprising. *Sigh* And yes while people are talking about what John Kerry said (which is the damn truth) people are dying for a lie. And I like when Kerry pointed out they are telling lies about a man who served his country while these guys in suits haven't ever put on a uniform.

3. And I think the public has pretty well
made up their minds; I don't think making John Kerry the issue is going to change anything.

The public is tired of this shit and John Kerry was telling the damn truth. Also, if Dems are smart, they can back his comments by steering the discussion to "what is our future in Iraq? will we eventually have to have draft?"

We know from the past (Viet Nam) that college students got off and the others went to 'Nam. The Dems should not run from or try to clarify Kerry's comments. Go with what he said, which warns of a runaway and escalated war and the eventual potential for a draft.

4. My BIL has been there twice
he's a reservist with a Bachelor's and an MBA. He doesn't deserve to be slighted. He didn't want to go, but, like many others, he did.

10. It doesn't matter how many people
Chose to sign up. That does not change the fact that some people sign up because they have no other option. But that is not relevent because that is not what he is talking about. He was not supposed to say uneducated people end up in Iraq, he was trying to say that stupid people end up in Iraq. Does it make more sense that an elected official whose speeches are parsed by handlers would call our enlistees stupid, or that he would call our President, who is well known to be a moron, stupid?

I haven't seen the video yet but heard different versions from DUers.
Did he really intend to say what this thread implies (and the OP has a point that we all know is not false) or was it solely directed towards Bush as in he didn't do the homework and as a result we are stuck in Iraq (which I tend to believe was the case)?

11. It's a sad comment on the failed Bush economy.
Manufacturing jobs shipped overseas by the thousands, unaffordable education, harder and harder to get financial aid. Few options available now to a poor kid who doesn't want to spend a lifetime scrounging for minimum wage.

completely off, the fact that recruiters prey on the poor and undereducated is the truth

15. The truth is that our military is the CREAM of our youth.
They are not failures. They are not stupid. They serve out of a sense of duty and honor.

I don't think Kerry meant to demean them at all. But why the fuck won't he just admit his mistatement, and get rid of the story?
