6. Pointed out that Biden would get to hear himself talk as long as he likes
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 05:39 PM by IanDB1
I promised to listen to the whole thing, because nobody except Joe Biden likes hearing Biden talk as much as I do.

19. Actually, I record it and forward to the good parts
I just skip the parts where he summarizes what he's been saying for the past fifteen minutes, and then explains why he's not going to vote that way.

"So, even though I just spent an entire afternoon mercilessly interrogating this nominee, and then spent fifteen minutes explaining why he is a terrible, evil man that eats Christian babies and urinates on kittens, and I hope he is not approved by the senate, although he probably will be, I am going to vote to confirm him anyway because..."

"I just spent an entire day explaining why we cannot torture prisoners. We have this law so that if my own son is captured, then he won't be tortured. But, that's not how I'm going to vote..."

33. That was my first thought, too.
He won't even need to read from a phone book. He can just read the transcripts from the Alito hearing, and then elaborate. He won't stop for a piss until August.

15. Biden's staffer cited that shithead Nelson's refusal as a sticking point
The staffer didn't call Nelson a shithead, though.

Basically, he pointed out that Nelson from Nebraska was voting for Alito because he's up for re-election, which means Biden... oh, fuck if I know how politicians think.

But he kind of implied that fuckwad Nelson was harshing the filibuster buzz.

Again, the staffer didn't call Nelson a fuckwad or say "harshing the filibuster buzz."

But you get the idea.

20. I don't understand
Is Biden up for re-election? Is this so negative in Delaware that it would hurt a person so popular he thinks he should run for President?

21. It's not about winning
Even if Alito is confirmed, Democrats need to be on the record as having tried to stop him. Long term, if Alito is as bad as we all fear, and Americans do lose some of our constitutional freedoms, or Congress loses some of it's oversight, the Democrats need to be able to say WE TRIED TO STOP IT.

If the public thinks the Alito confirmation was bipartisan, it will do long term damage to the party.

I always hear people say "You can't tell the Democrats and Republicans apart" (Hell that was Ralph Nader's campaign platform). HERE IS AN IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY TO PROVE THAT ISN'T TRUE
