Condoleezza Rice defends Bush on handling of Katrina, black issues

Dec 9 - St. Tammany.com/UPI

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is defending the Bush administration's handling of black issues and denies Hurricane Katrina victims were ignored.

In an interview with Essence magazine, whose readership is mostly black, Rice said it was "a ridiculous lie" that the government was "negligent" about most of Katrina's victims in New Orleans "because these were black," The Washington Times reported.

Rice also spoke of "huge increases in funding to historically black colleges" during the Bush administration and said it was Bush's minority education policies when he was Texas governor that "really attracted me to this president."

On the issue of affirmative action, Rice said she supports it but doesn't endorse quotas.

1. Holy crap. Condi knows way less about "black issues" than I do
And I'm terminally white.

This woman is a no less a disgrace than her boss is.

3. "because these were black,"
Of course that can never be proven one way or another. Ms Rice is making a statement that is not the main issue. Can it be proven that neglect was evident?

6. Agreed. The issue is people being neglected because they're poor
The fact that they are also predominantly African-American is of no concern to Ms Rice, no doubt. The fact that the mis-Administration she works for doesn't really give two shits about anyone except their cronies and bankers is what it all comes down to.

2. Condi baby has no creds left...she is cleaning her act...She is part of a TEAM that
ignored NOLA and surrounding regions...She and Bush have not solved squat...everything they have worked on has failed.

She has made things worse since she became SoS...

She should stay at home and keep Karen company....or do they get along???

That is like saying she tried but didn't slip on a size 10 pump at the shoe shop as Katrina drowned old people.

Nobody was paying attention to Katrina victims because the neocons thought they had a lock of leading people's behaviour..and didn't understand that there is a huge amount of altruism in 2/3 of the population.. unlike all of them. They still don't care that people were abandoned...just that they were not followed as they , the Bush Admin, vacationed around the country chirping "NOLA were told to leave town..they were warned..it is their own fault".

7. Condi went shoe shopping as New Orleans drowned.
It's just the poor people drowning. None of the administration gave a damn. They detest the poor.
