Have any prominent liberals called for banning Rush Limbaugh?
I'm trying to put together a response to a person that responded to my letter where I sarcastically thanked Rush Limbaugh for helping us win the Missouri senate race and tipping the senate in our favor.

I posted the Freeper-esque response in this thread, where somebody said that most liberals would ban Limbaugh...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2945550&mesg_id=2945550

I don't really recall any prominent liberals and/or Democrats that have called for Rush to be banned?

10. It sounds hyperbolic to me...
A generic smear with no substance, akin to 'some would like to ban him'.

4. I have to second this response
You aren't required to respond to every bray this jackass pumps out. And for discerning folks it may be enough to note very simply "My esteemed friend, upset as he was over the prospect of Mr. Limbaugh being banned from the nation's airwaves, apparently forgot to mention anyone who has actually, you know, said that. Because try as I might, I have found no one who has made this sensational suggestion, and a skeptical reader might be forgiven for thinking that Mr. Dinglefritz just made it up."

3. Because even as annoying as he is..we believe in the 1st amendment
Real Americans will defend even those they despise or disagree with if they truly believe in the Constitution and our rights.

14. He is the exact guy that made me examine my beliefs in the 1st Amend
I did a soul searching about him years ago.. Yes, he is about as low as they come but he is exactly why the 1st Amendment is important. If we believe in enforcing it - we must defend creeps like him too. That's why it's so tough defend our beliefs.

Now, that does not mean he shouldn't be challenged or smacked back for what he says - if he wants to dish it out he better be ready to take it too.

No offense taken.. be pissed at him - he deserves it.

5. Why ban him when he solidifies our positions with his every utterance?
As solidarity against him.
Besides, an impartial observer can see that he's really lost it, since he got off drugs.

17. Welcome to DU
and, Rush was influential enough to get the death of Vince Foster investigated at least 5 separate times.

Well, not Rush himself, but he instigated the calls for investigation.

25. The Supreme Court finally stopped the 6th investigation
Or, was it the 7th. Even Tony Scalia seemed pissed at them for bringing the issue up so many times and finally said if they couldn't find anything with the first five (or was it 6?) investigations, they had no grounds for digging into it again.

9. "Most liberals would ban limbaugh."
My two cents worth: Prove it motherfucker. High School debate, he who asserts must prove. Consider me a prominent liberal, I want him on more often to continue to make the lemmings more ignorant then they already are. He is contributing to the dumbing down of America and his students are willful idiots. I wish the klan would have more public rallies as well so America could see the face of the republican party and "conservatism" in America today. Look em in the eye, poke em in the chest, kick em in the ass.

12. Limbaugh can't even debate a prominent liberal
Ever notice how progressive radio hosts like Thom Hartmann & Al Franken will frequently debate prominent conservative guests? Does Rush ever do the same? O'Reilly has progressives on his show, but it isn't live and it's later cut to favor O'Reilly.

11. It is Rush's own big mouth that will get him banned from the airwaves
....How many more Michael Foxes will Rush ridicule out there? My guess is he will go right on doing that until even the most callous of right winger leaders will say enough and shut him down.

13. Rush is one of the best allies we could have.
Those buying the crap he peddles would buy a truck load of pet rocks. But any sane human being who tunes in, recognizes the dogma, propaganda, Kool-aid, and pure, unadulterated pile of crap he sells every moment of every day he's on the air.

Ban him? Never. We need someone of his stature and diseased mind to help us make the case that we, not he, represent a truer voice of our country's values. Limbaugh and his ilk have built a fence, cared for it, and at last, just might make them realize that it is not we, but they, who need to be isolated by that fence from sane human beings.

15. I know of no one who has called for Rush to be banned
and as much as I find him completely disgusting and without any type of honor, he is still protected by the same Freedom of Speech that protects us all. Rush, might and is a lot of things, but his speech must never, ever be banned and I would work vigorously against anyone that would do so.

18. Neve heard anyone wanting to ban him
But truth is he should be required to tell the truth and if he just did that he would have nothing left to say. Free speech doesn't mean you can lie about others, that isn't opinion, it isn't just a different idea when you make up words that others have supposedly said.

19. Just reinstate the fairness doctrine
and require that the media corporations provide time for rebuttals of all his lies and personal attacks- and the problem would go away.

I called for Rush to be banned from being treated as carry-on luggage of domestic airline flights, but inly because he wouldn't fit under the seat or in the overhead bin.

24. I never called for him to be banned
However in the small plant where I worked, I would tell co-workers to turn him down or off or get earphones, as I had as much right to not listen to him as they had to listen to him. I was told to lighten up some from management but since it was easier to replace an assembler or buffer than a die-maker, I prevailed.
I also pointed out to them that if the policies of that fat asshole and those he supported were in place that they, who had little, would have nothing.

26. All that would be required would be the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine
no need to ban anybody. That's how they do it in totalitarian states, like BushAmerika. Just bring back the Fairness Doctrine, and the OxyMoron goes away because all 600 or so stations would then have to run three hours of rebuttal (he-he, he said "butt" :-) ) after every show.
