How many Democrats took Abramoff's dirty money?
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 02:50 PM by ck4829
Answer - 0

"U.S. President George W. Bush calls indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff "an equal money dispenser" who helped politicians of both parties. Campaign donation records show Republicans were a lot more equal than Democrats.

Between 2001 and 2004, Abramoff gave more than $127,000 to Republican candidates and committees and nothing to Democrats, federal records show. At the same time, his Indian clients were the only ones among the top 10 tribal donors in the U.S. to donate more money to Republicans than Democrats."

"None of the Democrats received money directly from Abramoff."

Don't believe the lie. The closest link Abramoff has to the Democrats is through the Indian tribes he conned.

1. Thanks
Until these threads today, I'd bought into the lie that Dems took money from him.

7. Apologize For What? I'm One Of Those. . .
. . .that said it. But, the operative word for me was IF!

Some of us thought that IF it were true, we wouldn't stand behind them, since (IMO) dirty is dirty! At the same time, i never tried to say that i believed either possibility. Just that if it were proven that they were dirty, they should take the fall like a repub. I would be more gleeful over a repub taking a fall, but i wouldn't wear a black armband over a dirty dem taking one in the head!

If we disagreed on that, i sure don't remember it. And, i'm not sure you would have gotten snippy over that! Maybe you got mad at those who assumed the rumor true. Not sure.

9. Exactly.. the keyword there was "IF"
I got flamed on that thread by a few people who seem to think that Democrats are immune to corruption. And "IF" it comes out that Democrats were involved, then they should be punished like anyone else. I hope these links are all accurate, it would be wonderful to hear that no Dems are involved.

4. Then CNN lied about it too -
they actually showed a graphic last week that had money going to Democrats at about half of what went to Repugs; it was shown right after Bush made his comments (as if to support him).

12. They always try to justify the Republicans by
claiming the Democrats do it too, as though that makes things right. Sounds very similar to 5-year-old Janie's defense after having eaten half the cookies - "but Joey took some too."

8. So what is Abramoff-related Monies, is this not just as bad?
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 03:12 PM by Ioo
Maybe I am not understanding how we are saying that no dems took money...

The first Democratic senator to divest Abramoff-related money was Sen. Byron L. Dorgan (D-N.D.), who was the senior Democrat on a Senate committee that held high-profile hearings on the lobbyist's alleged bilking of Indian tribes. After those hearings, the Associated Press reported that Dorgan did not disclose actions he had taken that were favorable to Abramoff's clients around the time he had collected donations from them. Dorgan said he did not know Abramoff, but he decided to give back $67,000 in donations.

Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) soon followed suit, giving $18,892 in Abramoff-related money to tribal colleges in Montana.

Does this not make these people just as bad? I mean if Abramoff brokered the deal, I think thier hands are dirty?

Am I wrong here?

So help me out here..

10. If you're a Dem candidate
and you're outed as dirty money (especially if the word gets out here) you are on notice. Look at the hits lieberman's been taking and it's because of us. So, if you're a dem and dirty, don't bother. DU will campaign against you. It's not just about getting dems elected, it's about cleaning All of washington up. No more Abramoff's - ever. If a dems dirty, I'll be glad to see him indicted resigned and jailed just like a repuke.

11. It's called avoiding even...
...the APPEARANCE of impropriety. Something GWB promised to do, and has done anything but. But OUR side, upon learning of Abramoff's shadiness, even though none got money FROM HIM or actually KNEW HIM, divested or returned all monies from clients even tangentially RELATED. Understand that if we were to use these tangential associations to convict persons of crime, Bush would be guilty of being in LEAGUE WITH BIN LADEN, because he has taken money (and never returned it) from persons who also gave money to bin Laden, Hammas, and like-minded organizations.

Such SOP from the GOP. Obfuscation and misinformation. I'm sick to death of their treasonous tactics.
