The Fear That Kills

In a startling revelation, the former commander of Abu Ghraib prison testified that Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, former senior U.S. military commander in Iraq, gave orders to cover up the cause of death for some female American soldiers serving in Iraq.

Last week, Col. Janis Karpinski told a panel of judges at the Commission of Inquiry for Crimes against Humanity Committed by the Bush Administration in New York that several women had died of dehydration because they refused to drink liquids late in the day. They were afraid of being assaulted or even raped by male soldiers if they had to use the women's latrine after dark.

The latrine for female soldiers at Camp Victory wasn't located near their barracks, so they had to go outside if they needed to use the bathroom. "There were no lights near any of their facilities, so women were doubly easy targets in the dark of the night," Karpinski told retired U.S. Army Col. David Hackworth in a September 2004 interview.

It was there that male soldiers assaulted and raped women soldiers. So the women took matters into their own hands. They didn't drink in the late afternoon so they wouldn't have to urinate at night. They didn't get raped. But some died of dehydration in the desert heat, Karpinski said.

7. It is
I remember in 2004 reading a story about a female soldier who was trying to get justice for her being raped in the military. People were calling her horrible name's and saying she was a lesbian who hated men and the military and just trying to get them bad press. It was so disgusting. :( I felt so bad for her. And to know there are way more reports than her is just baffling and disgusting. What will happen when they come back here to the States? I remember last year reading a story of a guy who came back from Iraq and was in Texas and somehow got into a middle school and went to the girl's bathroom and raped a young girl. Will we be ready for their return?

2. I guess this means we're not liberators anymore...
When we start doing the same things as what Saddam did, we are no longer liberators.

5. technically we haven't been "liberators" since about 1945
and when we start doing the same things the Germans did in 1939 (e.g. invading other sovereign nations), well...you get the idea.

6. yeah, well...........
.........that was just one of Bush's many excuses for invading Iraq!

You know, like when they didn't find WMDs, suddenly we were liberating Iraqis. Of course, I realize he only said that to try justifying his actions...........as if anything could justify it.

11. Were we ever liberators?
Wasn't that just one of the excuses Chimpy made up for us being there?

And of course these rapes will be yet another reason some will use to claim women shouldn't be in the military. :eyes:

4. Is this true?
Outrageous. But this behavior starts with the attitude at the top.
Just the boys having a little fun...
The women should be packing and shoot the bastards.

12. They'd be incarcerated.
Immediately. And they would never be able to prove it was 'self-defense'.

Anyone wonder why recruiting has been suffering?

9. Welcome to DU!!
We need to harrass the MSM into covering this. I think I will research and hit up our ombudsman at Star Tribune.

Thanks for posting. I did read about it during SOTUS her on DU but the majority of people were ranting on that. It will take a few days to get this moving the way it should.

I'll try to keep it kicked.
