Is humanity worthy of survival?
This sort of comes from a recent Battlestar Galactica. Are we? I used to think that things were going in a progressive and positive direction. With increased knowledge of history and the way things seem to be going here and abroad nowadays, things don't look as positive to me. Are we really just too "fracked" up to exist? In the sweeping panorama of history haven't the rich and powerful pretty much always called the shots? Sure we gave power to a lot of the people here for awhile but aren't the same old power brokers getting back into the driver seat?

Attack or defend......We are unworthy of survival.

1. So far . . .
Time will tell, I guess. And who is judging this worthiness contest? Or are you just asking if we are too stupid to live, but in a nice, philosophical way?

The fundamentalist Christians would pose the opposite question: are we worthy of annihilation? (Followed by resurrection, of course.)

3. Remember the old movie "Story of Mankind"?
There was a crisis and the Super H Bomb was going to be used by humanity with the result of destruction. A defender of Mankind (Ronald Colman) was put forward and a prosecutor, the devil (Vincent Price). The conclusion was that humanity was too much of a mix of good and bad to allow them to be destroyed without more time to choose more positive actions.

I guess I just wonder if the Bomb does go off and there were any Cosmic onlookers.....should the shed a tear or applaud? I guess it is a complex question and everyone will come at it in a different way. That being said, is there any chance that we can be unified enough to survive?

Sorry for the pessimism.

4. I have to get that movie
My husband took me on a pilgrimage to Coleman's grave when I first met him. He is buried high on a hill overlooking the ocean in Santa Barbara. Sounds like a cool movie.

I think there is cause for hope, really. I am an observer of the left and the right, and I think that we are more unified than ever before, and that they are breaking apart.

The fundamentalists are getting impatient with the traditional conservatives, and vice versa. There are a few wedge issues that we could use break through.

2. That large question
is one that really, cannot be and does not deserve an answer. If you're talking about existance in the long term - we won't survive. An asteroid WILL eventually hit the earth and break it to bits, if we don't destroy it first.

As for now, we just have to to do the best we can.

5. "Worthy?" From whose (or what) point of view?

We can make judgments till the cows come home. We won't know what happens till we see what we do. So far, to me, it does not look promising.

6. Chinese and Indians will survive. Anyone making more than $5/day won't.
Execs want the high cost of goods, down to necessities. But they're going to pay the working class who ensure their wealth as piss-poor little as possible.

Anyone who dares ask more will be an encumbrance to be exterminated; what with "depleting" energy supplies and all.

Nix the West, and the drain on the energy would plummet.

Nixing America alone will be a HUGE savings on resources.

Why else offshore? We are not needed. We are superfluous. Extraneous. Ripe for extermination.

When the executives finally leave America, start the Timer's countdown mechanism.

7. I am! And so are my kids and grandkids.
Things will swing around our way soon. They always do(I hope).

Just a bit of bad luck for the world, if * had been the president of an insignificant country instead of the USA, he wouldn't have even amounted to a road bump for humanity.

9. All those who believe we are unworthy of survival...
the "Lemming Option" is open to you.

If humanity is unworthy of survival, there's no point in talking about it.

10. Noam Chomsky would probably remind us that, in spite of the current
trend and taking the long view, things today are vastly better than they ever have been before.

Oh WTF, no we don't, people suck.
