Postal killer racially motivated?
From MSNBC:

"...all of the dead at the facility were minorities: Three were black, one was Chinese-American, one was Hispanic and one was Filipino" and the killer, Jennifer Sanmarco, had a history of making racist comments.

2. Very strange. Sanmarco is not exactly an Anglo surname.
What was HER ethnicity, I wonder? Was it a married name? I don't know why that sticks out to me but it does.

11. You assume that only Anglos would kill people of color?
She was obviously INSANE.

What was HER ethnicity, I wonder?

I'm curious to know that as well, but it really doesn't matter.

14. She was living in New Mexico, which could
mean that she was Hispanic. The news wasn't clear why she had moved there from California, but it seems she was reclusive and perhaps could have been from there originally.

MSMBC is stirring a pot here. I don't believe there was racism as a motive, just nuttiness. Since this happened in my backyard, the local news has been covering it pretty thoroughly.

18. Latest update suggests both racism and nuttiness
She killed some people because they had different skin color than hers.

She killed at least one person because she was pissed off at her.

21. I don't trust the news reports. They are trying to indicate
something occurred with no proof. Every witness, who knew her, whose been interviewed on TV so far, never said she was racist. They did say she was very wierd and scary.

3. That's so horrible
My freshman year, my dorm was maybe half a mile from the mail processing plant. I heard the helicopters on Monday night too. I can't even imagine how the families of the victims must feel.

6. She sounds pretty insane
“She would do things that people would witness, like parking on the side of the road and praying,” Gallegos told MSNBC.com. “We’ve heard of her going through local Dumpsters. To this day we don’t know where she came from. She had no history on her, no family or friends, she was always by herself.”

Not currently married, at any rate, judging by this quote.

12. Is it necessary
to set such a tone? Insanity isn't anything to be so callous about. Nothing wrong with having empathy for a lost soul, is there?

minorities. I don't believe race had anything to do with it.

The woman was a mental case. She was irrational at times and talked to people that weren't there. I did a post on it earlier.

15. Good point, Cleita--
I agree with you that race probably had little if anything to do with this. It's sad that she didn't get help--maybe this violence could have been avoided altogether.

:(

9. The woman was crazy. She was having conversations with
herself. Not that she couldn't have been a crazy racist.

13. OT but this reminds me of something that really bothers me
Before cell phones were common, you could safely assume that anyone walking down the street having a conversation with another person who was not visibly present, was insane.

Now you can never be sure.

17. I know what you mean--
I'm always rather startled when I'm out and someone is nearby seeming to talk to themselves--loudly. Then I discover they are on one of those damned headpieces.

I really don't like the culture that has evolved around cell phones. Ettiquette, boundaries and a sense of personal/private conversations have gone out the window.

plain and simple. This woman needed to have medication and probably some supervised living arrangement until she could recuperate her mental health.

19. Local news here in Albuquerque NM,
showed the white woman killed in her home first, on the way to the post office. The story here showed a freaking nutbag, not a racist. Racial motivation can be found EASILY, if that is what is looked for. She lived alone, in a house in Grants NM, with NO furniture whatever excet one bed. The Grants county building has a police report on file that describes several of the employees here in NM, were creeped out by this woman who appeared to be "stalking" one woman, and just plain creepy in general.
