In for a penny, in for a pound
"Once you're in, you're in," he said. "Which was one of the reasons for not going in the first place."

This is a quote from a conservative politician in England. I know most on DU want an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
America is committed to keeping all potential challenging powers (both allies and enemies) under control. The PNAC calls for the destruction of all potential superpower on both the world scene and on a regional level. The USA will never allow even a regional superpower to rise and challenge the NWO.

The idea that an Iraq nation will support the USA and agree that America's sole superpower status as Allah's will (or good for Muslims, Arabs, Sunnis, Shiite, or Kurds) is laughable. The idea doesn't even have support in the UK - our closest ally. Or here in the USA (especially here at du).

In many ways, war is forever. The invasion of Bath-Iraq is over. Saddam is ousted. Now the civil war begins. Eventually, a government will have to stand on its own, but will always be protected (from being overthrown) by the USA on some level.

The idea that Iraq would never mind American occupation was as flawed as the WMD data. The next time America agrees to invade, they must also agree to either occupy or withdraw. The NWO opposes withdrawal.

In order to withdraw, we must concede that the invasion was a mistake, and that the war cannot be won. Or we can stay 20 years and ensure that the best Iraqi government that invasion can buy is stabilized. This will take many decades. In our rush to war, we didn't secure allies to help with this overall occupation (muslim nations should be doing this "peace keeping", not the west).

The democrats didn't have the courage to oppose invasion. Democrats will not have the courage to withdraw in defeat.

So we stay and occupy. Next time, our "opposition" leaders will know that war doesn't end with invasion.

1. What makes anyone think the real plan was to leave?
All that oil sitting there and we're going to leave? We're building 14 permanent bases there and we're going to leave? * had no intention of leaving and I'm betting he made sure it would be such a mess that "we couldn't".

3. well, next time, hopefully, the "doves" will have a voice, and

2. I don't know about that
I think they could simply declare victory and leave - the Iraq War is, despite Democratic support, Bush's and Republican's War. It's seen that way. So I don't know how big a political price Democrats would pay if they pulled us out.

4. The Dems, except the CBC and progressive caucus are complicit
This is America's war, even in England. Sure, it is Bush's war, but leaving will not stop the news ("Anarchy in Iraq"). There is no victory without occupation. Next time, the doves need to stand firm.

ps- I'll check out your link... thanks for posting.
