Am going to D.C. on a trip with my daughters school, ideas for a T-shirt?
My daughter plans to wear a couple anti-Bush Bracelets, she thought about a Kerry button when she goes to the Whitehouse. Being the developing Democrat she asked me what I intend to wear, I do not have a good answer. I am looking for a statement that is not disruptive. I would hate to see us placed in handcuffs, we are not disruptor's and plan be very polite, but would like to make a modest statement.

Anyone have any ideas? What is acceptable in Bush D.C.?

You know the one--* as Alfred E. Newman with a button on that said "Don't Worry."

9. I would wear something tasteful with FDR's picture or name on it
that kind of says it all in a tasteful manner, eh?

Or Kennedy, or Clinton, or Johnson---I mean, pick one.

You don't have to be "in your face" to make your feelings know. Maybe this is a great time to teach your daughter about being subtle.

20. I agree.
She can get in your face but has learned well when to express her opinions. I am actually more afraid of reactions from repressing opinions than from any other safety concerns. I am not an advocate of in your face. Many parents are not opting to send their children because of terrorist attack safety concerns. I admit I am much more worried about how citizens are treated by officials in Washington D.C than any potential terrorist. The Cindy Sheehan arrest really opened my daughters eyes about the need to be subtle.

11. If you can do screen printing beforehand...
I made this if you can get it screen printed. Ain't subtle, but there's nothing that I would consider false, opinionated, or biased on it. I plan on making a few myself. Sorry for the URL on it, you can delete that in MS paint pretty easily.

13. "Had Enough? Vote Democratic "
My personal fav, with hopes I'll win the next DU t-shirt contest with it

Have fun in DC, but I doubt any "free speechwear" will allow admittance to the WH.

Believe it or not, you would be asked to leave the Viet Nam Memorial Wall area with any politico hints....pro/con Bush policy. And that's a very public area.

My other personal favorite, "Fighting for Democracy Over There, While Losing it Here".

25. When did they start enforcing this? I was in DC last September
for the protest and the day before it (Friday) I was at the Wall and I had on a tee-shirt that said "Don't blame me, I voted for Kerry" and no one said a word.

If this is some sort of new policy, it needs to be looked into big time.

I seriously doubt that the people or their surviving family members whose names are engraved on that particular memorial would think that a policy like that is appropriate.

16. When I went to the White House with my HS class
we all dressed up (men in shirt and tie, women in blouses) because we were going to the white house (and other places the Capitol, Supreme Court) So I would suggest wearing something nice but accent it with a few anti-war buttons.

I remember our guide telling us that Bush came out and met with the group that came in the day before us (we were literally the second tour group allowed in after 9/11) I guess it was safer to meet with elementary students rather than a bunch of angry NE liberal honors students. I honestly don't know what I would have done had he met with us

I understand you will be asked to leave or be barred entrance to Bush supported venues such as War memorials, the Capitol, Museums, and the White House palace.

29. Wear one exactly like the one Cindy Sheehan was wearing---except,
of course, by then the number will be much higher.

Or you could always get the ever-popular, "Somewhere in Texas a village is missing its idiot".

31. I have the village idiot pin my daughter wanted to wear it .
My understanding you will be hassled for a message that blatant. Not that I do not agree with Cindy's message (I do agree) and Bush is an idiot.

What I wanted to wear was "Support our Troops, at least buy adequate armor, Raise Taxes on the Rich" and have been told by some that would bar entrance to some sites. For some reason acknowledging the number of Americans soldiers killed (in what I consider to be a war on false pretense) is considered to be too provocative for Bush D.C..
