Britney Spears on "Will and Grace" gives AFA latest chance to be outraged
SPECIAL ALERT! NBC to mock the Crucifixion of Christ
NBC, fresh from giving us the anti-Christian The Book of Daniel , has decided to hit back at the Christian community by presenting an episode of Will and Grace which mocks the crucifixion of Christ.

On the April 13 edition of NBC's Will and Grace , Britney Spears will appear as a Christian conservative sidekick to Sean Hayes' homosexual character, Jack, who hosts his own talk show.

Jack's fictional network, Out TV, is bought by a Christian TV network, leading to Spears contributing a cooking segment called "Cruci-fixin's." To further denigrate Christianity, NBC chose to air it the night before Good Friday..."

3. Good...
Fuck the AFA. Sadly, their main mouth, Gary Glenn, is from mon etat, Michigan. Oh well, even a blue state is entitled to have a few right wing wackos, right?

4. Isn't Britney a big time conservative?
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 01:25 PM by Dem Agog
I remember her airhead in the Michael Moore documentary, parroting her adoration for B*sh. And isn't she allegedly a "Christian"? I mean, I know she exemplifies just the kind of ignorant trash *I* think of whenever I think of Christians, but isn't she self-identified as one of their trailer park flock?

6. I don;t know that she's a conservative...
She's just a really dim bulb who has no clue about politics, and probably no real political philosophy. They call my generation - X - flaky and univolved, but hers, Y, is the absolute worst.

10. She's rather vocal in her support for Junior
Not that she understands what she's saying, but she keeps on saying it, anyway. Typical wingnut.

11. I take offense at your comment
Generation Y is not the worst. My generation may be more consumerist, but it's also more tolerant of other cultures and lifestyles, not to mention the fact that we voted overwhelmingly for John Kerry in the 2004 election.

13. Sorry...
I definitely agree on the more tolerant of cultures and lifestyles assertion, and I suppose it's not fair to imply that all of Gen Y is disengaged.

8. Yes.
I remember that very clearly. She's typical of the sort who would merely profess their faith rather than live it.

12. I think she's just kind of dumb
i doubt she's a fundie or anything. She probably believes the media propaganda about Bush.

7. This is wrong.
The sacrifice of Jesus is something that shouldn't be mocked. The AFA is as phony as a 3-dollar bill but it does have a point.

There are plenty of figures (eg Pat Robertson, Ralph Reed, etc.) in the media, congress and on Fox that deserve to be satirized. They could have easily gone after them instead.

Why go after someone depicted in the bible who is important to many people? There are many liberals and dems like Jimmy Carter who believe in Christ and worship Him.

Food for thought.

14. I guess I don't see it as going after Christ himself...
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 02:00 PM by Crankie Avalon
...so much as I see it as a dramatic representation of the kind of people (neoconservative, ostentatiously "Christian"-types) who go around thrusting Christ into everything, including tasteless velvet paintings, or those ghastly pictures where Jesus's eyes blink or cry as you move past, as well as "Christian" TV Networks that could well have cooking shows with titles at least as off-the-wall as "Cooking with Christ," if not "Cruci-fixins." And, as far that goes, this doesn't seem like it's necessarily "going after" such people so much as adding a little humor to them.

Finally, Britney Spears's character could end up being quite sympathetic and human in her goofy way. I don't know either way because I haven't seen the show--and neither has the AFA. As usual, they are condemning without having any actual knowledge of the situation or even any intention of finding out (by asking to see the script, say).

15. Comedy, Humor, Laughs? It is all both good for the body and soul
Especially in these dark times. And quite frankly, I think that Christ is a big enough person not to be insulted by any humor that is even remotely at his expense. After all, he made a lot of humor at our expense, it's only fair:shrug:

Next thing you know, the AFA will be trying to make it a legal form of punishment.
