U.N. diplomats chafe at Bolton 'discipline'

<snip>

"I brought the gavel down at 10. I was the only one in the room," Bolton said. The United States has just assumed the rotating presidency of the 15-nation council for the month of February.

"I believe in discipline. I think daily briefings constitute a form of intellectual discipline. Starting on time is a form of discipline," Bolton told reporters. "I failed today."

"I took a list of when they (council members) came in," Bolton said. "We started just before 10:15."

As part of a plan to modernize council operations, Bolton proposed that ambassadors gather daily at 10 a.m. for a briefing on the latest global political and peacekeeping developments.

Some ambassadors grumbled they already had too many commitments to attend daily sessions and others suggested perhaps two such briefings a week would suffice. Council members agreed to discuss the idea further on Friday.

don't mess with Bolton!

7. Every day is nuts, though
The world is a big place, and lots goes on...but does Bolton really expect DAILY meetings? Is this SOP? Sounds way overdone to me.

22. Daily meetings are ridiculous
However, it is up to these jerks to tell him no and then set a reasonable schedule. If they let him get away with his crap, then I don't feel bad for them.

13. YEAH, but the meetings were his invention, and its clear they feel
unnecessary. I believe it sounds like he's trying to "bring them to heel" under his dominance every morning.
I'd balk at that as well.

23. "Bolton proposed that ambassadors gather daily at 10 a.m"
One thing about official meetings, at least where I'm working, is that the attendees AGREE to attend, they don't just get handed a daily meeting out of the blue. These are some busy people, their time is probably already overcommitted.

He's lucky anyone showed at all.

30. Perhaps this is the ambassadors way of protesting Mr. Bolton
who knows? I do know that anything that John Bolton has to say is usually a lie, or a put down of another person if said person doesn't agree with Sir Bolton.

It's a good business book. Bolton should read it. Oh, but that would mean he would have to admit HE DOESN'T ALREADY KNOW EVERYTHING!

Never mind.
