Statement from John Kerry on Hate Crime Committed in New Bedford, MA
Statement from John Kerry on Hate Crime Committed in New Bedford, MA

February 2nd, 2006 @ 3:03 pm
A teenager armed with a hatchet and handgun opened fire inside a gay bar in New Bedford, MA early Thursday, wounding at least three people. New Bedford police are investigating this as a hate crime.

A bartender at Puzzle Lounge told The Associated Press that the young man, dressed all in black, ordered a drink and asked if Puzzles was a gay bar. He finished his drink shortly after midnight, ordered another, then started attacking people, the bartender said. Three were hospitalized Thursday.

John Kerry released the following statement on the incidident:

“This tragedy must be a serious wake up call to anyone who pretends hate crimes don’t exist in America. Anyone who ever doubted that bigotry is still with us should think about the fact that just after midnight last night a man walked into a bar and attacked people with a hatchet, then opened fire with a handgun. He wanted to kill them for being who they are. That’s a hate crime, and that’s un-American.

no one should doubt that in someone's mind -- the revolution has begun -- only it ain't on the left.

6. peace back at ya. -- that's what it's all about
they want their listeners to take them seriously -- it's how they are fighting their ''cultural war'' in real time.

if they can keep gay folk{and women} scambling for their lives -- then we can can't be focused on changing society.

9. Unless I missed it, I didn't hear a similar condemnation of this
hate crime from the White House.

I salute President Kerry for his continued clarity and integrity in American public life.

11. Shows the difference between a REAL President and a pRes who thinks he is.
Warning

Gore and Kerry were honestly elected by the people, but between Diebold and a couple of State Attorney Generals who were doing double duty as leaders of *ush's campaign in said states (Florida and Ohio - Katherine Harris and Ken Blackwell)there was enough corruption to delay full disclosure of the truth until the electoral votes had been counted.

Truthfully, though, Kerry and Gore seem to have decided that the gloves have gotta come off and it's time to just beat some sense into this administration.

I'm liking it.

12. Then support gay marriage John!
You still make this segment of society segregated (and therefore open it up to these kinds of attacks) by supporting civil unions but not gay marriage.

Marriage is not owned by religion but is delegated by government, it may be facilatated by a spiritual path but they dont own it. Acting as if they do gives extremists like that disgusting little man an excuse to do what he does, it encourages further ostracizing by society at large. It is an infringement on civil liberties pure plain and simple, and I thought that was the sort of thing Dems take a stand against... maybe not anymore.

14. Kerry was just doing
what any leader with integrity and compassion and character would do... I am sure that Bush can't even spell integrity or pronounce it correctly given only one try.

Sigh.
