Let's look a year down the road, after this surge is a proven flop.
As with every other "plausible" bush policy, it has to be played out to it's inevitable conclusion (failure).

What then?

1. You're giving this a year?
This will fail before summer.

4. 6 months, a year, what difference does it make? Nothing will change
I just figure a year will allow a little better perspective.

7. The fact that it will fail will be meaningless to Smirk
He's just buying time until he's out of office

8. I'm not sure
That new legal appointment in the White House suggests that he is very, very worried.

11. The Iraq debacle has been failure after failure after failure
this is simply another one, a bit more publicized.

The fact that he may be impeached won't affect what he does with troops. He HAS to keep them in so he can blame the next president when it goes utterly batshit over there.

14. Oh I agree with you 100% that
this is a disaster even before he speaks let alone sends more young people to die. No matter who he attempts to blame this is his clusterfuck.

5. Here's what my crystal ball thinks:
1. Malaki will be gone since Smirk wants to attack Al Sadr and Sadr controls 20% of parliament's votes.

2. I suspect a new puppet will be installed as prime minister who will also live in the Green Zone but I don't know if they'll pick a Sunni, Shia or Kurd puppet...someone at least as compliant as Malaki probably.

3. The security situation will be much worse. We'll be over 4,500 in dead Americans. Another 500,000 Iraqis will leave the country, mostly middle class who can afford to go.

4. The fighting in the streets will be worse and an all out civil war will become more obvious than it is now. Some leaders for factions will emerge on the Sunni side to go head to head with al Sadr.

5. Congress will have held hearings and the BLATANT LIES used to start the war will become more widely known by the public and they will become more enraged.

6. Republican congresscritters up for re-election in 2008, will be pissing themselves jumping off the Bush ship and joining democrats to pull back the purse strings.

7. Bush will be required to start bringing home the troops at the end of 2007, when senior republican leaders go to the WH and demand it on threat of joining in impeachment proceedings.

8. Bush will bring home token numbers of troops through 2008, until he leaves office with a 80,000 more or less troops stuck in his quagmire for the next president to deal with.

6. George will call for more soldiers so they won't have died in vain?
He'll insist we have to reduce taxes on the rich to improve the army's morale?

He'll insist on microphones in every home to catch people who are hurting our soldiers by badmouthing the war effort?

He'll arrest some bums for trying to blow up the White House with hand lotion?

10. They'll do the same thing they did the last two times this failed...
They'll claim 'the next six months are critical' and propose another surge, but call it something different.
