Poll question: What Is the Best Source of National and International News?
To clarify the question: What news source, IF USED, would provide the most national and international information that Americans SHOULD BE aware of?

1. I Voted For Other And The Winner Is:
www.c-span.org
I know I know
But At this point in time I feel I have to watch the hearings myself if I want to really be informed as to what is going on
As far as the msm is concerned I have lost all respect for them

22. Third BBC
They're probably the best news organization out there. It seems that British media in general is better than American media.

That being said, if you come to DU enough, you'll know everything you need to know.

So I pick Christian Science Monitor.

11. I just mean that ....

...in the traditional sense, it is not a newspaper with reporters that write articles. It's more like a bulletin board.

17. Not in the "traditional sense", but
Still, you can go to it and get lots of news.

Thousands of individuals post articles that they pick up from other sites -- including articles that are often virtually ignored by our national news media.

A smaller number of people post their own news, based on their own experiences.

And, we have a number of professional journalists who post articles here.

All in all, it is hard for me to imagine some real significant news articles that are missed on the DU. And, most of them provide links to the original sources.

The one disadvantage IMO is that there are so many articles posted every day that it takes some work to separate the wheat from the chaff. But we have a lot of help in that regard by virtue of most of the really good stuff making it to the Greatest Page or the Front Page.

So, I think that the advantages greatly outweight that one disadvantage, and that's why I voted for it.

12. Of course it is. Just as much as CSM is.
CSM doesn't make news, it's just an aggregator. Exactly as LBN is. The only difference is the structure.

13. Well read my response above..
Edited on Fri Feb-03-06 09:18 AM by skooooo
..Interesting discussion, by the way. CSM does "make the news" in the sense that its reporters write what you read.

Yes LBN at DU is the best place to find international and national news, but without the newspapers, etc. that produce the reports there would be little in LBN.

:-)

They are so far above and beyond any American media that putting them in the same poll is comparing apples to oranges.

19. if you follow the DU General Discussion and LBN boards . . .
virtually everything of import that happens in the world is reported on one or both, usually as soon as it occurs . . . you also get links to news stories and opinion pieces from a variety of foreign sources, from the BBC to Pravda . . . though not a typical news "source," DU is certainly the best news compilation site on the web, and monitoring the posts here will keep you about as informed as you can get . . .

27. I no longer watch any teevee news and I am quite happy about it.
I search for news in places like this or Buzzflash, BBC, Common Dreams, What Really Happened, etc I have no need to be insulted by teevee "news"
