Such a big deal made by Buckaroo Bushai. Freedom, Democracy and all the things that he said would set Iraq free. Yet, all I find is little snippets in the news about it. There was a little editorial in the NYT 21 January;
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/21/opinion/21sat1.html?ex=1295499600&en=d547fc908b325b59&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rssThere were no big surprises in the official Iraqi election results announced yesterday, but there were some encouraging trends, including significantly expanded parliamentary representation for the discontented Sunni Arab minority. But real power will remain, as before, with the Shiite fundamentalist and Kurdish nationalist parties, a fair reflection of the demographic reality that Shiites and Kurds together account for almost 80 percent of the Iraqi population. Majorities rule in democratic elections, but they rule successfully only if they reach out to minorities and respond generously to their legitimate concerns. But no fanfare by the Bushies, no proclamations, no declarations that we can leave the rule of the country to the elected officials.
Nothing but silence. Which is why I started this thread.
Was there really an election? Or did this fiasco get by our leadership and the MSM without a question being raised? Or in the end, did they even care? Do we even care anymore?
