I think something is happening in Vermont....concerning Bush impeachment?
Don't get all excited yet, because I only saw the last part of the clip, but it seemed like some kind of grassroots effort on the part of the public to call for impeaching Bush and Cheney.

It seemed pretty important at whatever town meeting it was, at least on the local news level, like a precedent was going to take place, but I only saw the last 20 or 30 seconds of it, so I am not exactly sure what was going on.

I was getting ready to get to work and channel surfing before I left, and I caught the tail end of a report on a local TV news station (Plattsburgh, NY/Burlington, VT...NBC affiliate) coming out of Vermont that had something to do with the people of Vermont bringing up impeachment charges on their own or something like that.

Anyway, it seemed significant. Can anyone from Vermont shed any light on this?

6. I LOVE Bernie Sanders...
Thom Hartmann has him on every Friday, his "Friday with Bernie" segment, so perhaps it will be discussed then (?)

4. The states can initiate impeachment proceedings
Someone on Daily Kos posted a story about how individual states can initiate impeachement. Maybe the efforts in Vermont are related to this.

5. There was a community in Northern Cal
That passed a resolution in their city council calling for impeachment.

I think this is similar to the very heartening movement by many communities to reject the Patriot Act.

8. Maybe this?
http://www.vermontguardian.com/local/012006/FeingoldVisit.shtml

Feingold won't rule out Bush impeachment
By Shay Totten & Kathryn Casa | Vermont Guardian

"Asked by a supporter whether there was a way citizens could impeach Bush "here and now," Feingold said he first wants to hear the administration's justification for conducting domestic surveillance before determining what, if any, punishment should occur.

Once that is known he said, there should be accountability. "I'm not going to prejudge what that accountability should be.""

------
There is no consitutional provision for a "citizen's impeachment", therefore it does not exist.

It takes 67 votes in the Senate to convict on impeachment, and we could only get 25 to filibuster on a critical SCOTUS appointment. Now tell me how we are going to remove Bush by impeachment. Real world, please - not "Fantasy Island".

12. 25 on F'buster yes, but 42 no on Alito confirmation, also take into the
2006 elections and also the last wild card is that there a few libertarian Republicans in the Senate hopefully more R Senator's will be concerned with Wiretapgate than Alito.

14. The REAL vote, the one that mattered, was the cloture vote.
The confirmation vote was a mere formality, and many DINOs, who voted against cloture tried to have it both ways by voting "No" on confirmation, after voting "Yes" on cloture.

It is a very long way from 25 ot 67.

16. we'll have to wait and see - there is a remarkable difference between
Alito and Wiretapgate, there are quite a few more republicans concerned about this debate compared to how they greenlighted Alito. But who knows? I always appreciate the very good points that you bring up in the discussions, thank you and let's keep our fingers crossed it will be an interesting year.:toast:

10. He's Dennis Morriseau, and he's running for Congress...
As a REPUBLICAN! He's pissed off and impeachement is at the top of his agenda.. The Republicans in Vermont are more liberal than some of the Democrats on DU.
