The Stockholm Syndrome in America
The Stockholm Syndrome is one in which hostages become sympathetic with their kidnappers. (Google Stockholm Syndrome for further info.)

The blind loyalty of most Republican voters to their party is virtually identical to this syndrome. These people are voting and acting against their own interests in terms of jobs and financial well being, health care, privacy, and most of the personal freedoms we've always taken for granted.

In effect, it is their minds that have been kidnapped and being held hostage through propaganda and appeals to their fears and biases. They can't see it, won't hear it, and will attack you verbally or physically if you try to get through to them.

It's tempting to just say, "screw 'em," but we're all paying a terrible price for this American version of the Stockholm Syndrome. How do you free someone's mind when they don't even know it's being held hostage? (Kinda' reminds one of "The Matrix.")

1. It's about time somebody connected those dots.
My unqualified opinion has been Stockholm for quite some time now. Comes from my background working with domestic abuse survivors. It's an almost unbreakable spell, most success in recovery involves separating the victim and abuser for a period of time. It really is a deprogramming process.

Unfortunately, in America's case the abuser is pervasive and powerful beyond their physical presence, thanks to the tools of media and law enforcement.

Inability to reconcile the two realities on a personal basis often ends in psychosis or suicide.

How this will play out on a national scale I have no idea. I bet there are clues to be found in the history of previous failed civilizations.

2. Maybe we can get Dr. Phil to have a sit-down session with America.
I've felt that way for a long time. Peoples thought processes have been hijacked. Try talking to them. They'll try to convince you that up is down, slavery is freedom.

4. Dr. Phil perpetuates it.
He seems pretty narcissistic himself.

5. Why not post your sentiments in FreeRepublic? It might help a few.
But then, why soil your computer?
