19. I'm worried about O'Reilly and his fragile mental state

Olbermann's new thing when quoting O'Reilly is to do so in the voice of news anchor "Ted Baxter" from the old Mary Tyler Moore show. Ted was a pompous blowhard who couldn't see past his own self-importance to realize that everyone thought he was ridiculous.

This Ted-Baxter-as-O'Reilly thing is brilliant in the way it punctures O'Reilly's ego by refusing to take him seriously. O'Reilly, like most grandiose blowhards, is incapable of seeing humor in himself or even pretending to. He's just not a strong enough person to laugh it off, so he'll have to keep ratcheting up his attacks on KO. It must absolutely drive him into a frenzy that KO keeps responding to his attacks with lighthearted wit. O'Reilly doesn't speak that language and can't defend himself against it. The only thing he has in his arsenal is bluster and threats. Once he realizes it's not working, I think he'll go right off the deep end, perhaps never to return.
