For those unfamiliar with this situation, PA Democrats are not acting in ways we can be proud of. Well at least 3 of them. MOST are doing the righ thing, including Pittsburgh EX-Mayor who called them out and said publicly that the FIX WAS IN! Time to clean house!

"The Fix is In". Gov. Rendell's Slots License Swindle

October 28, 2005
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

"'The fix is in' when it comes to who's going to get a casino in Pittsburgh, Mayor Tom Murphy said Thursday.

"'It's no secret,' Murphy said during a Press Club of Western Pennsylvania luncheon. 'The word is out. The fix is in in Pittsburgh.'"

June 14, 2005
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

" said that he doubts any state money will be available for and that slots are the team's best bet."

August 21, 2005
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

"Gov. Ed Rendell has received $147,688 since 2002 from members of the development family that owns Station Square, a potential casino site."

Total contributions from the Ratner family of Forest City (the development family who wishes to develop the Station Square slots casino): $264,942.

January 12, 2006
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

"18 local officials line up behind Penguins' arena-casino plan."

"With hockey and other events at the arena, the proposal has the potential to generate the most amusement tax revenue for Pittsburgh at a time when the city is struggling to make ends meet." (State Senator Jim Ferlo)

"The 18 who backed the Penguins' plan joined several other groups or individuals, including the Greater Pittsburgh Regional Council of Carpenters and the Rev. James Simms, a former County Council president, that have already endorsed the proposal."

"Isle of Capri has pledged $290 million toward a new arena." (Which will keep the Penguins in Pittsburgh and revitalize the economically depressed Uptown neighborhood.)

January 22, 2006
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

"Gov. Ed Rendell thinks the Pittsburgh Penguins should have a back-up plan for a new arena should their bid to get one through a casino deal go bust."

"'hey need to start looking at Plan B.'"

January 27, 2006
KDKA.com

Penguins arena consultant David Morehouse asks "why won't support a plan to build an arena without any tax money"

Why Indeed! Could it be all those campaign contributions Gov. Rendell has received?

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, during the NHL Lockout, when the season was cancelled, the city of Pittsburgh "lost a precise $1.6 million in tax revenues and an estimated $48 million in overall economic impact." (7/14/2005)

Can the region afford to lose the Penguins, their ecomonic contribution, and this chance to revitalize the Uptown neighborhood?
