*:"part of my foreign policy is this..I believe that there is an Almighty"

http://www.voanews.com/english/2006-02-03-voa62.cfm

<snip>

Mr. Bush said there is a tendency in American economic and foreign policy to pull-back in times of uncertainty, with some people asking why Washington should try to compete or spread freedom when the world is a dangerous place.

The president said that it would be a missed opportunity to lay the foundation of peace for generations to come.

"See, part of my foreign policy is this," Mr. Bush said. I believe that there is an Almighty, and I believe that the Almighty's gift to everybody on the face of the earth, regardless of where they live, or regardless of their religion, is freedom. And I believe, deep in everybody's soul, is the deep desire to live in freedom. And I believe that this country, if it were to retreat, would miss an opportunity to help others realize their dream. And I also know that history has proven that free societies yield the peace that we all want."

Crusades anyone?

33. You've got that right -- I'm overseas right now and
there is almost a universal hatred of bush. His only fans are the poor fools (Americans) who watch ONLY Faux news -- you know the unenlightened GOPigs.

The world can see that the boy emperor is naked. Very often non Americans tread softly when talking to expiate Americans, as if they are talking to cult members until they realize that we share their dislike for all things bushie.

9. OUR dream or THEIR dream
I guess that's the question... if you live in a society that is centuries old, religion based, and male-based, our idea of freedom conflicts with their very soul. Our idea of freedom comes from European based philosophers and a history of the rule of law as opposed to the rule of a religious mantra. They just don't get it.... Trying to impose democracy results in even more fundamental theocracies, surprising even those who are supposed to be smart enough and in touch enough to be able to predict those results, right Condo-lie-za?

Freedom from being spied upon without a warrant.
Freedom from being arrested for wearing an anti-Bush t-shirt.

FUCK, what kind of country do we live in anyway - that we have to ask this fucking imbecile to PLEASE give us some FREEDOM?

17. well that's one of the dumbest things i've heard today
catch a clue train, if he was so freakin ALMIGHTY and he wanted em to be free (whatever that means) they'd be free

if the so-called ALMIGHTY needs the help of puny humans to achieve his dubious objections, then perhaps he is not so ALMIGHTY and we needn't trouble our pretty heads about it

time for the ALMIGHTY to prove some of this omnipotence by actually doing something an omnipotent being would do, a magical overnight sex change overnight of all males in taliban by decree of the ALMIGHTY would likely convince me for one that such a being can actually be arsed to exist

us from mushroom clouds. No the real reason we spent all that blood and treasure invading Iraq is that we didn't want to miss an opportunity to help others realize their dream.

So the freedom on the march and democracy thing is a little shaky, and we're not too sure about the rape rooms and torture, but I sure hope Iraq is grateful for the opportunity to realize their dream.

BTW, I say a mental health official from Iraq as part of a panel on C-Span talking about drug abuse. He said many Iraqis are on anti-anxiety medications. They are expecting Iraq to have a big drug abuse problem, too, just as soon as the war dies down enough for them to have income. I suppose in some circles that'll be described as another success.

Edited to add: God wanted me to post this.

28. Said by more than a few, but you also have to walk the walk

"Despite what I consider to be a constitutional and biblical requirement for the separation of church and state, I must acknowledge that my own religious beliefs have been inextricably entwined with the political principles I have adopted."

James Earl Carter

"But peace does not rest in the charters and covenants alone. It lies in the hearts and minds of all people. So let us not rest all our hopes on parchment and on paper, let us strive to build peace, a desire for peace, a willingness to work for peace in the hearts and minds of all of our people. I believe that we can. I believe the problems of human destiny are not beyond the reach of human beings."

John Kennedy

32. How would the US government react if the dictator leader of China or
Russia were to talk and act like bu$hco? Ignoring and twisting the law. Spouting reality challenged lies, invading innocent countries, killing the civilians because there is no military defending that country.

I do believe our government would be quite concerned.
