question about Mike Malloy and Majority Report
Two questions have been gnawing at me since I began listening to Mike Malloy and The Majority Report on AAR:

At the end Mike's broadcasts on Friday nights, he says "have a good weekend, Kevin Kinney, wherever you are". Who is Kevin Kinney?

At the end of the Majority Report, Sam and/or Janeanne say "peaches". Who or what is "peaches" and why do they say it?

Thanks!:)

1. I think Kevin is the lead singer of Driving and Crying ( a GA band)
I know someone who was the guitarist for the group.

Mike was a rock producer/publicist of some sort.

2. Peaches
Jeneane why do you talk about peaches a lot? What are peaches?

Peaches was a performer who was on the show in the early days of Majority Report. The interview (taped) was so awful that the blog forced them to put a stop to the interview before it was over. After that, at the end of each show, Janeane says "Peaches" in honor of that interview. Sort of a "goodnight" to the blog.

3. That doesn't make sense
The 'blog' forced a 'radio interview' to end an interview???

And what is the point of mentioning this 'failed interview' as some sort of example?

5. The link with the net is part of the genius of Air America
Here's a comment on that episode (it was at a time when AAR had 11 stations.

from http://www.pbytes.com/node/view/527
"And by crikey do the presenters listen to their critics. Not only do Garofalo and Seder frequently read out blog feedback as it comes in, but they once halted an interview with the rock bore-ette Peaches after bloggers complained it was the worst thing the station had ever broadcast. Add to this the fact that bloggers and online journalists frequently appear as guests, and Air America starts to look like the world's first major blog-powered radio station. But if it is, it certainly won't be the last."

As for turning it into a sign-off custom, I expect it is a tribute to the value of the feedback from the blog, as Mabus suggests, or maybe just a reminder that she and Sam acknowledge their mistakes.
