Clueless repug moderate has decided Dem Party over and done -
Need some help. There is a blog site that claims to be a "moderate" repug. Now I've been reading and occasionally writing a response to this guy over the last year. Just a tad bit of history. This guy is a self-proclaimed Republican because he believes in smaller government, lower taxes, yadda, yadda, yadda. This same guy's wife has had a serious struggle with breast cancer over the last year. She is doing well now (thank God!) but financially they have struggled. They do have some health insurance but it has not come close to covering all of her needs. The local community has rallied around this family, held fund raisers, raffles, the kindness of strangers have just donated money. You would think that just that little bit of history would cause this guy to rethink his position on the political scene today. But, nope, the Dems are just mean to Alito, etc. I'm forming a response to his lame argument and could use a little input. Here is one comment and his comment regarding the Dems (I removed their names even tho they are posted on the web site -

I was reading something today - either LGF or Henninger at the WSJ - about the fact that Kos has taken over the Democrats as evidenced by the lame filibuster attempt and the fact that all leading Senate Democrat presidential contenders felt compelled to go along. Assuming this is true, the Democrats are done (as if they weren't done already). I wonder how possible it is that the Republicans will split into new parties between social and liberal conservatives with both sharing a common economic outlook?

I think that is a capital idea, David.
I for one would welcome, and eagerly join, such a party.

I agree that the Democratic leadership, and by extention - the party - is done. Their leadership is inept and they are completely out of touch with mainstream America.

Their symbolic refusal to confirm Alito was just pitiful. Alito is a fine man and will make an excellent justice, and they know that. The better tact would have been to confirm him, but make their reservations known. This would have at least make them look like they have a clue.

Now here is my lo-o-o-o-og response. Any suggestions before I post?

Alito is a bought and paid for shill for Bushco - just like the rest of the repugs in Washington. Did you read any of his opinions or did you just take for granted that everything the TV airheads paid by the GOP said was true? They would never lie, would they? Politicians don’t lie to further their agenda, right? Do you agree with Alito we need a president that ignores the Constitution for his own wild whims? That three separate and equal branches of government is totally unnecessary to afford the best protections from power hungry politicians? That big business is always better than “for the people?” Just because you WANT to believe that a Republican Party of your mind's eye still exists doesn't make it true.

Based on your criteria of a "wishing and hoping" Republican you are now again a Democrat. Nothing about the supposed views of the repug party are based on any type of reality for today. The Republican Party is now controlled by an unholy alliance of far right wing Christian Taliban and corporate owners that always moves to the middle to get the guns/God/gays vote right before an election and then dives back to the extreme right once the vote counting is done. You guys have been punked for the last 10 years and do not even have the decency to wake up to what has happened to the Republican Party.

You can lambaste the Dems all you want but they are the party that works to make sure everyone has a decent chance at healthcare, wants your pension to be safe, have protected people from unsafe working conditions, keep the air and water we breath safe and clean, the Dems made sure our elderly have a decent retirement, attempt to ensure that our children are educated, the list goes on and on. Everything that has come in the last 100 years that was for the benefit of the citizens came because a Dem cared more about the people than the big money talkers. How about reading “Homegrown Democratic” by Garrison Keillor? That gives a good view of a Democratic without the filter of the GOP smear machine

When your children are ready to go to college hope you are independently wealthy because it is no accident that financial aid and student loans have been cut, it is no accident that minimum wage is so low - the Repugs, whether they will admit it or not, have instituted a "economic" draft for many of our children. Can't afford a higher education? Then doing a few tours of duty in lovely downtown Fallujah may be just the answer, the repugs have a spot for your kids.

We can agree to disagree about many positions but to buy wholesale the "mainstream media" nonsense that Dems are pitiful because they are against a justice like Alito is disingenuous. To call the Democratic leaders names because they question Commander Chucklenuts (and YES – I call this moron names – often and continually – he has earned each and everyone), his lies and his trashing of the Constitution is extremely unpatriotic. How about cleaning your own political house before throwing stones at a group of people who are at least standing up to the corruption? Keep your head buried in the sand, keep pretending the “other side” is clueless, buy all of the pabulum this administration and his partners in crime are spreading but in the meantime, there are millions and millions of people in this country who will be working tooth and nail to save you guys from yourselves.

Feel free to add your own comments to his little spiel - http://www.davidhoggard.com/ (the link is good - his site just has abad case of hiccups from time to time)

What did I miss? I'm sick of this pseudo-Republican trashing the Dems.

1. you might point out that their republican party may be splitting also
A large divide between real conservatives, ones that are conservative about balanced budgets, the constitution and government out of our private lives are not happy with todays borrow and spend, legislating from the bench and spying on innocent people republicans. Also the isolationists that believe we should not be nation building.

Ask them which kind of republican they are.

2. here's my suggestion, keep it simple
Many Democrats opposed Alito because they are afraid of Big Governemt doing sneak and peak
into their lives. They felt that anyone who supports more power for George Bush will endanger their right to privacy. Here's a link to a story how the FBI demanded information on 1 million innocent party goers in Las Vegas in 2004 using the Patriot Act. Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld were trying to get wiretaps passed back in the Ford administration long before 9-11.
