Something I like to throw at RW'ers
Edited on Sat Feb-04-06 12:58 PM by SHRED
You know...the redneck Republican NRA types that claim to "not trust the government".
I work with quite a few.
We are subject to urine tests.

I tell them this:
Go ahead and wiretap me, take my body fluid to test, but just don't touch my guns!
:sarcasm:

They usually respond with a comical nervous chuckle.

1. It's gotten bad
We have government monitoring everything we do, cameras at intersections...the works. All in the name of "security." Mr. Orwell was far ahead of his time. Urine tests for minimum wage jobs..Good grief.

And government tyranny has far more firepower than the average person with his or her tiny pistol. Self protection from intruders and criminals is all we can hope for. Forget about standing up to the government. That only works in the movies.

Remember the police action that removed Elian Gonzalez? Just like storm troopers. We are lucky they let the common folk live here anymore. And there is no shortage of devious ways they can "protect" us from whatever.

13. Do you remember WHY Elian Gonzalez was removed?

I guarantee if the situation were reversed and an American woman took her child without permission from the Father to Cuba and died en route, leaving ONLY one parent, that if Cuba wouldn't return the child to it's LEGAL PARENT, it would be an international incident.

3. I'm wondering what DU thinks of urine tests
I find myself conflicted. It is invasive to the extreme, but yet we have a massive drug problem, all the way up to you know where on PA Ave. Do I want to make sure the bus driver and the airline mechanics are drug free? Well, yeah. I do. But at what expense?

6. I drove a truck and every year we had to take
a drug and urine test. Its a DOT regulation. Its funny, though, you can be in a room full of pot smokers and a week later take a urine test and test positive for the drug. So beware, any truck drivers out there. You don't have to smoke pot, just being around some who do may cost you your job.

11. I had to pass a urine test to get medical care
I suffer from chronic pain, when I started to receive treatment from a pain management clinic I had to be tested.

My doctor recommended opiate therapy (Morphine) for me, and because the DEA watches his practice I had to agree to the clinic's drug policy which includes random urinalysis.

I wonder about the lack of privacy now. If I would get tested for employment purposes, I have to admit to opiate use and reveal my medical condition and disability. I imagine it will be hard to ever get another job.

As far as pilots, truck drivers, and heavy equipment operators, impairment testing at the beginning of the work shift would be a better idea.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY COUNTRY?!?!?!?!?

14. The ACLU had a doc on their site
about a girl who was told she had to do a urine test and she said "no" and went to the SCOTUS (it was for school I believe) and they sided with the school.

4. Precious Bodily Fluids
Shred, Shred, Shred... You're hitting them where it hurts. Taking away their guns? You reminded me of one of my favorite films of all time, Dr. Strangelove - Or How I stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Bomb

General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream.
Group Captain Lionel Mandrake: Lord, Jack.
Ripper: You know when fluoridation first began?
Mandrake: Aye, no, no. I don't Jack.
Ripper: Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? Its incredibly obvious isn't it. A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.

5. A true story
RE: Urine testing

We had a "class" from the National Safety Compliance Inc. (for work and our Commercial Driver's License)
http://www.nsc2000.com/alcohol.asp

This was prior to starting the Federal drug testing program, as prescribed by law.
Prior to the class I read the entire CFR so I was prepared. I hate privacy invasion and assumed guilt. Which these tests are.

You would not believe the yellow science they threw at us...especially about the affects of marijuana.
Anyway, I asked many "uncomfortable" questions for the instructor.
At break he was going on and on about how drug testing will become more and more prevalent. I interrupted him and said he didn't know that. I added that here in CA we just passed 215 (this was 1996) and he was just guessing. Furthermore I exclaimed that many people were becoming more and more aware of their rights.
He quietly pulled me aside and told me, in a low voice, "Uhh...there are a lot of political pressures here and besides...there are drug lab jobs at stake".
I kid you not!

Right then I knew that it was much more about politics and a jobs program to suck more tax dollars in this never ending "war on drugs".

7. They should just call it the marijuana test.
Other substances leave your system in a day or two.
