Conyers: Latest on Impeachment Inquiry

Latest on Impeachment Inquiry
Up to 17 Members, More than 35,000 Citizens

All of your hard work is paying off. We are now up to 17 Members on my select committee to investigate impeachable offenses. And more than 35,000 Americans have signed my on line petition demanding accountability. (Link: http://johnconyers.com/index.asp?Type=SUPERFORMS&SEC=%7B29336D51-F9AE-474D-8C08-8D69902D5149%7D )

Its clear we are striking a chord, that no one, not even the president is above the law. I am happy to tell you our investigation has not stopped, we are tracking the NSA and related spying scandals quite closely, and will be keeping our eyes peeled on the Senate hearing Monday. Let me know if you see anything that is particularly noteworthy to include in our invesigation, either at the hearing or in general.

And we have not given up on misleading the nation into war. As noted a few days ago, Sands' dislcosure on Bush seeking to provoke Saddam into war by disguising US planes is a real bombshell. It makes the case we are building even stronger.

2. He's smart to keep the light on it
I remember reading posts here where people were freaking out and getting pissed at Fitz because we hadn't heard anything.

I just hope we see something that will break through all the stonewalling.

15. Online petitions aren't going to cut it
Hate to rain on your parade, but...

When have petitions made any kind of difference to these clowns now infesting the administration or the WH?

Case in point. Look at the petition for the DSM. Where, exactly did THAT go? I'll tell you, into the memory hole, that's where.

There was no response from the administration. Straight into the circular filing cabinet.

No media interest, aside from a few photos.

No interest from the Dems on the House or Senate floor. No impassioned speeches, save for the usual SMALL band of patriotic brothers.

What Conyers NEEDS is ammunition. Get out there and research, reaserch, research. Find anything that has traction. Go to precedents, similar situations (Clinton comes to mind immediately) and LAW.

LAW, LAW, LAW should be the rallying cry

I've said too much.

Just reflect, THINK and come up with a plan.

My 2c, thanks.

21. Have to agree, might make people feel better.
Polling data, and letters are toilet paper these days. The only thing I believe will make a difference is an organized, structured and legal petition to every in state democrat and republican leader simply laying out a plan for an organized campaign against their re-election.

I believe this will only be effective if it is delivered, in a business manner, low key, professional, short and without threats of protests.

Puffing up, and flashing feathers is very easily ignored even right out in the open, all the demonstrations and media hungary events have amounted to squat. However a no fanfare, literal, to the point declaration would not have to pass the media gauntlet. The message basically, "we don't want this in the media, every concerned citizen that can be approached will be in an attempt to persuade them from voting for you.", "we don't promise you a loss, however we will do our damnedest to make you work for every vote." Written not as a threat, but as a community declaration in a business manner, with the ability to back it up before the declaration is sent. It will be ignored at first sure, but if there are consequences in THEIR polling data, attention will be paid. On the whole I just don't think dems or repubs give one rats ass about anything unless their future job is on the line.

Petitioning washington, or sending poll data, might as well pound sand.
"grass roots"=over used, "conscience community" = rings better.

11. Yes, what about it?
Has there been any president who has been censured while in office?

And what about the claims that impeachment AND censure would represent double jeopardy?

6. Again demonstrates the importance of taking back the house in 06.
Impeachment won't happen before we do so. I am so glad for John Conyers and his fellow dems in congress, we had only 8 sponsors not long ago, I expect we'll se more and more as time goes on.

9. The Impeachment of Bush/Cheney is not impossible.
The evidence of crimes is building. It may come to pass that the RW in Congress will not be able to deny the facts.
