Concerned about the Super Bowl

I am a little concerned about tomorrow.

Last year, I was very pissed off at one of the Super Bowl ads where soldiers go to Iraq and people cheering and clapping at them as they head out. I almost thrown a temper tantrum!

This year, there maybe another "Support the troops" ad that will make me scream. And when the national anthem is played this year, there maybe shots at troops at "Camp Freedom" or something, and George W's psycho father will be strutting along with gullible Bill Clinton again.

This type of "patriotism" will drive me insane. As the truth about the Iraq War unfolds, I'm afraid that it will be again covered up by this "support/salute our troops" crap!

I do agree - the patriotic shit usually turns me off. The TV in my house will be muted during the national anthem.

What scares me the most is the unquestioning nationalism from the sheeple. How far are we from a point where someone could pull out a gun and shoot me for being "unpatriotic"?

There undoubtedly will be some tip of the hat to the troops. Bet on it. If it bothers you, don't watch the pregame or the halftime show.

Wasn't it the super bowl that moveon.org tried to run a commercial but they where turned down because it was not appropriate.

I guess a sport which conducts violence as a business is in full support of the war.

6. That's not what I expected this thread to be about

My dad told me the Coast Guard is going nuts because the stadium is right down on the river. I'm hoping all goes well just to avoid giving junior any more excuses.

7. The majority of the folks attending the Super Bowl

aren't real football fans. Corporations buy out most of the seats and send their rich buddies there as perks. Do you ever read about tailgating there? Nope. Instead you read about all these multimillion dollar parties -- you or I will never get to go to a Super Bowl. At least real fans can get into the World Series -- it ain't cheap, but it's doable. A volcano could erupt on the 50 yard line of the Super Bowl and bury the crowd in lava and it would probably be the best thing to happen to America since the revolution. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

The Lions have been horrible for many, many years. That would help explain why most seats are taken by out-of-towners.

9. Well, after Bin Laden's recent tape, and his 2nd in command

the one 2nd in command we haven's supposedly arrested yet, my concern is a terrorist attack.

The administration has taken every chance to scream "terror" when a flea farts, I think the Superbowl should be an actual concern.

I think the people that support our troops should include congress and the administration, not by using them as mercinaries.

to that ad...it was soldiers coming home, and people cheering them in the airport as they arrived. The thing about our soldiers is....we don't hear about them at all...even when they die....they deserve recognition...even though what we send them to do is horrendous, and will probably ruin if not end their life....course, it would be nice, if they took the money for that ad, and gave it to the VA...

13. I was in the Atlanta Airport terminal a few weeks ago...

and evidently, a planeload of soldiers came in from Iraq - you could tell they were coming back due to the state of their clothing and duffel bags/packs.

Everybody in the terminal gave them a standing ovation (including me). It's not their fault
that dipsh*t dubya can't get his head out of his posterior.

Support the troops, not the occupation or dubya.

You don't see our troops coming home like this. That's just a fantasy. In my view, they usually come home in flag-drapped coffins.
