I am gonna run in 2008 on a ticket of sex education, no intelligent design anywhere near a science class and push for comparative religion classes so that all students can learn about different religions...

I would also push the Old Testament to be taught as literature as The Iliad and Odyssey are treated as literature....

I wold also push hard for High Schools to run from 9 AM to 5PM... I would also push for more mixed community use of school buildings so it would make it easier to split funding between municipalities and school districts....

Other ideas to come...

1. I know teens need more sleep...
studies that they're more alert when school starts later, but the late arrival/late dismissal would kill after-school programs.

Good luck with your run, I've been kicking around the idea myself

which county, btw?

4. How about Climate Science in 8th grade physical science?
The hydrologic cycle, plant distribution, oceans, what causes hurricanes, what causes lake effect snow, how to train to be the next Dick Goddard.

I think a key concept would be: what forces condensation of water vapor into clouds, rain, or snow.

There is going to be a teacher training session at the climate symposium: Educating Ourselves About Global Climate Change on March 17 and 18. http://www.cmnh.org/events/climate-change-symposium/
