14. Dear John: Your children don't want war for a gift!
They also don't want to foot the bill(s) for that war, either.

Don't you want your children to have a better life than you have? Why leave them saddled with horrendous debt and an America that is split in two?

As a caring father, you should not want to leave "gifts" :eyes: like this to your children. They are not gifts, they are burdens.

15. Well, except those whose children have already died fighting the war.
Guess those families just need to learn to laugh.

Pentagon to families: Go ahead, laugh
By Gregg Zoroya, USA TODAY
When the stress of the war in Iraq becomes too severe, the Pentagon has a suggestion for military families: Learn how to laugh.
With help from the Pentagon's chief laughter instructor, families of National Guard members are learning to walk like a penguin, laugh like a lion and blurt "ha, ha, hee, hee and ho, ho."

No joke.

"I laugh every chance I get," says the instructor, retired Army colonel James "Scotty" Scott. "That's why I'm blessed to be at the Pentagon, where we definitely need a lot of laughter in our lives."

37. what a tool. No one believes that anymore.
And to think the public would think that this "gift" to the children outweighs the debt put on children due to these policies is just... well... fantasy. Perhaps it will be real fun with this guy as leader - as he is also out of touch per the sentiments of the public and will not do much to change the public perception that the GOP in congress is the problem before the midterm elections.

Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 10:44 AM by OzarkDem
He's a power broker who is not accustomed to explaining anything he does. Sort of like taking a CEO of a multi-billion dollar corporation and trying to turn them into a politician.

People like him truly think government is just a big corporation and they're executives that run it. He sees citizens as employees, not owners.

24. This may be a prelude to, or a trial balloon for
the admin finally admiting that the war is and always was about OIL. We may see the talking points prior to the 2006 elections include things like peak oil and how the U.S. will need a garaunteed secure source of oil to survive and compete with China in years to come.

We will have yet ANOTHER in a long line of excuses for starting the war and you can just bet the the repuke base will JUMP willingly on board. It could become an election issue: "These tree hugging peace-nik liberals hate murka so much they want to give all the oil to chinese comies etc..."

Boner's statement along with shrubs ridiculous "addiction" (ridiculous in a fox gaurding the hen house sense.) comments during the SOTU adress are kind of pointing in this direction.

They knew that they could never keep thier true intentions regarding the war secret forever so here comes another layer of the onion but don't you believe it. This wasn't about survival, it's about PROFIT and big oil's recently posted (record HUGE, vast...VAST) profits prove it.

29. Never served, no sons to send over -
Born in Cincinnati in November 1949 as one of 12 brothers and sisters, John has lived in Southwest Ohio his entire life. He and his wife Debbie have been married for 32 years. They have two daughters – Lindsay and Tricia – and live in the northern Cincinnati suburb of West Chester. After graduating from Cincinnati’s Moeller High School, in 1968, John earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Xavier University in Cincinnati in 1977.

Upon his graduation, he accepted a position with Nucite Sales, a small sales business in the packaging and plastics industry, and eventually became president of the firm. While working in the private sector, John entered the political arena – first serving as Union Township trustee from 1982 to 1984 and then as a representative to the Ohio state legislature from 1984 to 1990.

42. Told you guys -- he's much worse than Blount
As bad as Blount is, he was a known quantity. Boehner has been festering beneath the radar for years. The GOP knew what they were doing by picking Boehner, another warmongering, Bible-thumping fascist from SW Ohio (Jean Schmidt/Ken Blackwell/Taft country). Ohio is the state they need to hold on to by hook or by crook, and the GOP machine believes Boehner's position will help them achieve that goal even if the GOP loses the statehouse. The Cincinnati area will serve as the neocon base of operations not only statewide but nationally as well. That's another reason Paul Hackett scared the bejeebus out of them.

47. Here's Boner in a 1995 radio address:
...Fifty years ago, Americans were called to face a crisis abroad. Today, we face another crisis, and this one is right here at home. For more than a generation, our federal government hasn't been able to balance its books.

For nearly 30 years, Congress has refused to deal responsibly with this problem. The result -- a debt that means that every child born today will have to spend $187,000 over their lifetime just to pay their share of interest on the national debt.

We've saddled our children with $5 trillion worth of debt, and frankly, that's unconscionable. Government has grown too big and too expensive, and we can no longer stand by and spend our children into bankruptcy.

Now is the time not to play golf as the president did yesterday, but now is the time to act. The president has talked about balancing the budget. In fact, he's even promised to balance the budget. But so far, the President has offered no leadership and he's offered no plan.

So Congress has had to go it alone. We've written a plan that is certified to balance the budget in seven years, not through harmful or random cuts, but by slowing the increases in government spending.

This is serious business, and we're serious about balancing the budget. But I'll be honest with you. I've got some very personal reasons for seeing this through. My two daughters, Lindsey and Tricia, are both in high school.

This debate isn't just about numbers and Washington gimmicks. It's about the kind of nation we want to leave for our children and theirs. Balancing the budget is the right thing to do for our children's future. But it's also hard work, and this week, we're sending the president legislation to make a downpayment on that balanced budget -- a 15-day spending bill to keep the government running until he can sign a balanced budget....
