Halliburton to build Homeland Security Detention Ctrs in US
So, who are they building these prisons for? Do I need my tin foil hat, or what? This makes me nervous when taken in conjunction with the rhetoric of the right, calling Democrats "evil," "the enemy," and "giving comfort to the enemy."

On the other hand, this pisses me off and made me decide to go to the NYC protest in April. I am going with my husband's Fire Dept shirts and sweatshirts on, with a camera and a video camera. I will, of course, follow all the rules for "free speech," but will be on the lookout for those who are trying to get protestors to riot, as discovered the NYPD was doing during the Convention.

1. The question I have is why is this "similar" to previous contracts?
In the announcement of the contract the government noted that similar contacts were given.

Are they really building these facilities, have we been building these things for many years now? Or, is Halliburton/BR just standing by as emergency fence-builders ready to build impoundments around any major round up of illegal immigrants or detention needs of other "new programs?"

3. Prison building is a major industry
and yes we have been building them for years and they are still overcrowded.

If we just let go the nonviolent drug offenders, we would have plenty of space. But we can't have that now, can we?

13. Yeah. You know I think it takes a RW fundy to come up with this kind of
law. I mean these are the same people who believe in an eternal fiery punishment for badly living a life that is shorter than the blink of God's eye.

9. I don't think Bush has the power
to get away with that at this point.

This is not the 1930's. There are too many of us and they have little support, even on their own side.

Bush's power is all an illusion.

18. Good point, DYEW...

"Bush's power is all an illusion".

BushCo's grasp on power can be at least partly ascribed to their alarming ability to propagate the lie of their being invincible and inevitable. SG

4. If its anything like their previous contracts, we have nothing to fear
Haliburton will take the money and then either not build the facilities or do a really half-assed job with them.

6. obviously, if it smells like a duck, its a duck.
these detention centers are too huge for just the normal flow of illegal aliens, which if you think about it, the procedure is NOT to hold them but to deport them back immediately. Therefore LARGE holding detention centers make no sense for illegal aliens.

so, what does that leave? consider that they have been recasting dissenters as terrorists, and I think you have your answer.

15. But if there are previous contracts, have they already built some of these
Or is the contract simply to be available to string up wire fences and set up 16-man tents?

Call me tinfoily but while many worry about prisons for political dissidents, I am wondering about the possibility that this a front for Halliburton assembling pre-fabricated prison camps that get deployed to eastern european.

If they have been building real camps for years . . .

1) Where are the camps? There ought to be several by now.

2) If KBR/Halliburton is just standing by with all the supplies to build these camps, where are they standing by? There must be full warehouses somewhere.

3) If KBR/H is standing by there must be federal land already purchased/leased and designated as building site(s). Where?

16. those are all good questions.
I can speculate for you:

1. where are the camps?
Why would we get to know? the media can be blocked or made to be complicit.
2. KBR warehouse -- ever drive down the hiway and see large nondescript warehouse facilities? I can see 4 just in the Dayton/Columbus corridor along hiway 70.
wouldn't be that hard to rent nondescript warehouse space.
3. if the time comes to put dissenters in concentration detention centers, do you really think they'll care if they have to seize already owned land?
