Caller on C-SPAN
A rethug caller complained of dem "give-aways" like food stamps are giving to people who do not deserve them. I am sure he is right. There are abuses in every program. It is up to the administrators of the particular programs to weed-out those who really do not qualify. But, we continually see Bush practice his cronyism and put people in charge of these programs who have zero experience in the field! So, instead of complaining about people taking advantage of the programs, this idiot should be complaining about those who allow such abuses to occur.....the inept "Good job, Brownie!" losers who are tapped to head these programs because they helped Bush steal elections! People like the caller are blind to the "real" problem. They don't realize the reason the abuses occur is because they are allowed to occur....no or little oversight, which is the trademark of the Bush administration! This is what you get when you elect a man with no experience as an effective leader, and a businessman who has never ran a profitable business!

1. He pales in comparison to the
present RACIST white woman from Alabama. She's jealous of black women on welfare while she scraps to take care of her sister. Man! Racism is alive and well in this country ... Bush LOVES to play the poor whites off on the poor blacks. Shameful. :(

9. And she had just finished saying that her sister was on Medicaid
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 09:34 AM by qanda
I wonder if she realizes that Bush was cutting the program that is helping her sister. I guess it's only welfare if someone you don't like needs it.

13. People like that woman often turn out that way
because they asked for help and were turned down for one reason or another. So instead of accepting that whatever reason FIA gave for turning them down or asking for a hearing, they find it easier to use the excuse that they didn't get the help because they weren't black. Same way on the job, a black person or a woman gets a promotion that they feel entitled for and don't get it, well blame it on the person that did get it and that way your the victim of whatever program they heard of, in this case the equal employment act. It doesn't matter what the facts are or what they did or didn't do, its easier to blame programs or people then accept that you might have lost because you weren't as quilified as the person who got it was. I've seen these same people rant and rave when they seen blacks buying steaks and soda pop with food stamps, one person wanted the state to say what a person could or couldn't buy with food stamps, he felt that food stamps should only be used to buy rice and beans.

6. What An Idiot!
He actually thinks the guy driving a Lexus and buying steaks is doing it with tax money! Well, maybe that "foreigner" is doing it with tax money. Maybe he's a Republican representative from that district!

10. My sister is an analyst for the welfare department in CT. She
told me that, by far, the vast majority of recipients are single, unskilled and uneducated women, who have children, but do not have a husband. There is absolutely no way that someone of this demographic can possibly earn enough for child care and rent, food, power, etc. Absolutely, there are abusers, as with any assistance program, however, the vast majority are those in real need.

It just amazes me the disconnect between those who claim to have Christian values and yet eschew those in need.

11. I'll trade giveaways to the poor for giveaways to the rich...
And come out billions of dollars ahead.

Add up all the money the USA 'wastes' on feeding and clothing and housing and educating its population, and it won't amount to half what we spend on war, diabolical machinery, death, destruction and profiteering.

One of these, domestic spending, is kind, helpful, loving and Christian. The other, war-mongering, is satanic, hateful, destructive and inhumane.

So guess which one America's RW 'christians' support.

15. Repigs Are Ignorant and Elitist
First of all, no immigrant is allowed to receive food stamps or any other entitlement (though welfare, which used to be part of social security is no longer an entitlement, but still, immigrants cannot receive it). This was banned in 1996 with the so-called "Welfare DEformed" or its official name: "The Personal Responsibility Act"

Second of all, why aren't these people outraged at all the "giveaways" that the wealthy and corporations receive while having expensive lunches with their buddies? It is literally thousands of times more than any social program even has in the budget. In 1996, the entire national budget paid out only 4% of itself to social welfare programs while military spending in PEACETIME was almost 50% (half) of our entire budget.

Third of all there are more white people receiving benefits than black people.

Gawd this ignorance is getting to me. I am the so-called "ignorant poor" while that caller is not only ignorant and racist, he is a greedy idiot. He thinks only the rich should take from us and this is perfectly all right.

NOT!!!!!!

Cat In Seattle <---disgusted and frustrated with this nation's desire to shoot itself in the foot by by blithely taxing itself to the max for senseless wars and paying off the rich, but who could give a rat's ass about entitlements that should be going to citizens who actually contribute to their communities, not take from it.

16. I am very much in favour of welfare reform.
Having said THAT, welfare, food stamps, unemployment insurance, school lunches, medicare, medicaid, etc. are THE ONLY REASON that I do not mind paying my taxes.

They should rename "welfare reform" to "government waste management." It's the STUPID government programs / waste / corruption and the OBSCENE DEFENSE SPENDING that I object to.
