Fill me in please. What eavesdropping did Clinton...
do? A RW co-worker has referred to it as being justification for Bush spying. I found something on project Echelon regarding this, but it was on a RW website. Anyone have a link to the facts? Some sites are blocked at work.

Thanks.

1. None. It is a lie.
Demand your co-worker document his/her source. He/she is simply wrong. Remind him/her that Hannity and Rush don't count as "sources."

2. This has been debunked at length
Here and over at Daily KOS. This is one of their favorite rebuttals, the "Clinton did it too" response. The only problem is it doesn't hold water. But I'll let someone who can explain it better than I let you know exactly why, just rest assured that what Clinton did was 100% legal - and not what Bush is doing now.

3. He didn't do any.
The closest comparison they can present is the Ames case which involved a physical search, not wiretapping.

The problem with this argument is that Clinton signed into law a bill to cover just such instances, as prior to Clinton, physical searched were not covered under FISA, after the Ames case and Clintons efforts, FISA was expanded to cover physical searches.

So, prior to Clinton, FISA involved only wiretaps, and was followed completely in the Ames case, after the Ames case, FISA was modified and expanded to also cover physical searches. The Clinton administration was well within the law in the matter.

4. Even if he did do it... wasn't Bush supposed to bring
honor and integrity back to the office of the president?

Also, ask him if everyone is jumping off the bridge would Bush do it too.

7. What do you think of the Republican argument that...
"We're at war". Did I miss the Congress declaring war? (Or is that a "quaint" idea now, too?)
