Why don't people understand??
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 11:59 AM by sparosnare
The executive branch CANNOT oversee itself and cannot say "trust us" to do the right thing. There is a reason our founding fathers designed our government the way they did - accountability! Unless Congress does its job and demand accountability, there really is nothing we can do.

1. That's what concerns me about this hearing-all the Republicans so
far, except Specter, are on the bandwagon to do nothing to stop Bush.

6. EXCEPT Specter?? WTF?? Specter is a smooth, sh*t-talking enabler.
Gonzales is NOT under oath. And Specter is just greasing the way for us all to get f*cked.

20. I haven't trusted him since the Warren Commission.
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 12:47 PM by FrustratedDemInNC
It's unbelievable the Attorney General of the U.S. was not sworn in for these hearings - I'm losing faith in the ability for us to ever recover as a country at this rate.

I just called both Leahy and Specter's offices demanding to know why Gonzales wasn't sworn in.

2. Those people believe it can't happen here.
And/or they've been convinced to be so terrified of -- well, terrorism -- that they don't care.

3. IMO, they do understand, but are confronted with Media Lies on a daily
basis.

A few might or might not understand but ultimately don't care, as it's more important to belong to their "tribe" and support whatever their leader does.

It's partly mob psychology but mostly Propaganda.

4. This isn't a stealth attack
I feel we are in the final throes of a hostile takeover.
People should be in the streets protesting, but they aren't.
The reason why?
Because they divided us BEFORE they did this shit.
Many are so ingrained to hate "Bush haters", that they can't see past that.
They are so busy hating us, they have no idea what these criminals are up to.
That was the plan all along.

5. These hearings are just candy in the store window
They are doing hearings for one reason only, so they can say that they checked on it and it appears OK by them.
Don't expect any more from this hearing than from the 9/11 commission
Nothing but white wash.

8. Can someone explain something to me?
In 2001 congress gave the president the power to declare war or take military actions. (not sure of the correct terminology)

If congress can give the powers can't they rescind the powers?

This Republican controlled Congress is working in lockstep with Bush and until Democrats take it back, consider that branch of the government nonexistent.

13. So our hopes of change really are pinned on the elections this year...
My dad who is the nicest guy you will ever meet....has always said that there will be another civil war in this country. I have always taken this with a grain of salt.....now I am thinking he may be on to something!!

15. Yes they are.
And if you believe as some do that the elections are rigged, then how can we even depend on that? You know, Bush has broken the law and there's no outrage among the American people. I'm beginning to believe most will be perfectly happy to live in a fascist state as long as they can watch what they want on TV.

18. It seems that way.
The corporate media have successfully brainwashed the masses with fear and propaganda. The techniques used for this "art of illusion" are far more sophisticated than 20 years ago so people are getting sucked into the hysteria. I do believe many people would be horrified if they knew the truth, others would endorse the fascist government.

23. Maddie, thanks for the question
This administration prefaces everything on the President's War Power. I read a small amount this a.m. on the Constitution power of the Pres. during a war and it looks like he get WAY too much power, especially since this is a so called war on terrorism and against those that attacked us on 9-11. So, the only way to diminish this power is for Congress to declare this is not a real war. But can they? As one of the Senators asked today, Dem., when will we know when it is over? That is a really big problem.

And yes, the Congress did let bush declare war on somebody/or thing.

11. Exactly. Where did that idiotic mentality come from
"Oh, the White House will supervise and investigate itself. We don't need to keep them honest. If they have something that they are trying to hide or cover up, I am sure they will make sure that the public knows about it and it will get investigated"

Hell, it even upsets Bill OhReally every now and then. The other day, on his radio show, he complained and said he disagreed with the Adminstrations decision not to release documents requested by inquiries. But then he said, "But I can understand that it is their policy not to release documents that could be used against them."

:wtf:

Since when is that understandable or acceptable?

16. Understandable does not equal acceptable.
It's quite understandable for a murderer to wipe his prints from the gun. It's very understandable for an embezzler to cook the books.
And it's understandable for the WH to withhold information that would put its occupants in prison.

Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 12:10 PM by leeroysphits
Hell, even Raygun said "Trust but VERIFY" when it comes to the government. Why are so many of his fanatical followers ignoring one of the few things he ever said that makes any sense?

22. Many many more people need to wrap their minds around this
This is what is unfolding here and now.

Bush’s Tyranny for a Bankrupt Nation
By Mike Whitney

01/05/06 "ICH

what is the relationship between the ocean of debt produced by the Bush team and their strengthening of police-state apparatus like unlimited spying on Americans, the NSS (Bush’s new Secret Police), the uniform Federal ID program, the Patriot Act, and Halliburton’s $385 million contract from Homeland Security to construct new detention and processing facilities within the United States?

Is the ascendancy of the police-state intended to balance the catastrophic effects of economic destruction? Or, do the new instruments of repression anticipate the “political turmoil” (Warren Buffet’s words) that naturally results from financial collapse?

The Bush master-plan is no different than the economic shock-therapy the United States has directed at the third world for decades. The strategy is simple and straightforward, but virtually foolproof in achieving its objectives; the crushing of the middle class and the subsequent shifting of the nation’s wealth to the “oligarchy of racketeers” who run the system.

The levers of power have all been faithfully assembled by Bush operatives, while America’s $3 trillion trade deficit looms overhead like the sword of Damocles. As the underpinnings of economic wellbeing continue to deteriorate; causing further job-flight, credit spending, and soaring energy prices; the power-brokers at the head-of-state calmly arrange the instruments of repression they’ll need to maintain order.
