How does one get into the twisted world of Alberto Gonzales! What labrynthine corridors make up his mental world - what a tangle of bizarre tunnels and serpentine percepts!
Let's examine:
The Authorization to Use Military Force (hereinafter, the "AUMF," or "Hey you, motherfucker!") does not amend or modify the 1978 FISA law. No, sirree. The FISA Law (with amendments) remains as perfectly in force as ever, without the AUMF having amended it.
Rather, a provision of the FISA Law states (in Gonzales world) that subsequent statutes can allow any given administration to circumvent the totality of FISA Provisions. The AUMF is just such a statute!
So, the AUMF does not modify or amend the FISA Law itself. Rather, it is a subsequent statute that allows one to ignore the (fully intact, mind you!) FISA Law.
This concludes our trip through the bizarre world of Alberto Gonzales for today. He proves in this episode that he is not limited to the flesh of human beings when it comes to torture. No ma'am: he can also torture logic, good sense, and language itself, to boot!
