"This 12-Step Program Can Break U.S. Oil"
Our president almost came clean in his State of the Union speech last week when he finally admitted that "America is addicted to oil." That addiction threatens our national security, our environmental health and our way of life.

It is true that our leaders are exhibiting the classic signs of an addiction denial, aggression, avoidance, blaming others and as a country we are falling far short of reaching our full potential.

America's stubborn dependence on oil erodes our bedrock values. For it, we will go to war, support unstable and undemocratic regimes, destabilize our climate, decimate our forests and parks, threaten the health of our children, and weaken our economy.

The president admitted to a national problem, but stopped well short of committing our country to a full recovery program. We already have the technology. What we desperately need is the courage to act now. It is time for nothing short of a national intervention, and a 12-step program to break America's oil addiction. Here's how:

4. Well we would have to break the fixation with the war on drugs, because
people will claim that hemp and marijuana look too much alike to risk growing hemp (and thus also marijuana).

The other thing is how to break with the forestry industry. I think in many ways it would be easier to pitch that they adapt to hemp farming (like some big oil companies are doing with solar panel production) than to try to pry their grip off the paper and other timber prodicts industry.

In other words, pitch it as a financial winner with the added benefit of ecological health. Sadly, ecological health won't sell on its own. :(

5. You know green,,,1 acre of Hemp = 2-4 acres of wood and
a better quality wood, fire retardant, also and most important, RENEWABLE. Environmentally friendly, and has unlimited uses but I suspect I'm preaching to the choir with you..we need the blind, ignorant and poor to hop on board.

people miming taking a hit off a joint. And this from some conservative evangelicals as well!

8. Never been to that site before but I do like to promote
this site and particularly this page: http://www.thehia.org/facts.html

Very important to be well-armed with facts in the face of so much ignorance. (And me, I am still learning more all the time. Hardly an expert but I know enough now to recognize this as a potentially wonderful resource for our country.)

Thanks for the pokerface link. :)

9. Yes I agree,,,HIA is interesting and I am now watching
some trailers. You and I are the only Hemp promoters on this thread lol.. A funny thing happened the other day, my local cable BX channel were discussing alternative fuels,so i called in and mentioned bringing back Hemp and the host Gary chuckled as though I was promoting smoking a joint,,yes I said i know Hemp is illegal but without discussions with the masses it will remain illegal he laughed and moved on to the next caller..Why is it so difficult to reach the minds of people?

10. That's very disappointing but in no way surprising :^( However, necessity
is the mother of invention and I think that as the pressures of our collapsing planet grow upon us more and more people will awaken to alternatives. The tricky bit is whether or not they will wake up too late before we reach a point of true eco-disaster (if we haven't hit it yet.) :(
