Wow and Double Wow! RoveBush may have miscalculated on this spying issue
As I was waiting to get through to Cspan with my own feelings about this abomination of leadership, there was call after call, Dem, Repub and Indy almost ALL outraged about this powergrab! American's don't like this, the polls reflect it, and Pat Buchanan is dead wrong - it's not just "legalise". This is RESONATING

I think this one's gonna hurt them bad - Bush had almost zero crediblilty as it was, and now he's parsing the law and the constitution? And the AG is given a pass on taking the oath and THEN SAYS JUST TRUST US??? Oh, COMEON! Bad bad BAD Republican's. :spank:

2. not many people like their privacy invaded
least of all people who have feelings of guilt about sex - which is where i imagine most of right-wing america is at. they're all probably nervous that their personal porno stashes have been detected...

6. Ha, ha, ha!
I think you are absolutely correct! I've long suspected that those fundies who scream the loudest about anything to do with sex are really closet sex freaks! They hate themselves so we must ALL be kept from the evil act!:sarcasm:

God deliver us from these fixated Puritans!

14. There's definitely a cognitive disconnect.

During the Clinton "scandal", I worked with a guy who was a serial womanizer. A married man who was the stereotypical skirt-chaser, and bragged about it in leering ways. Just a nasty, lowlife individual. Yet, he would go on and on about Bill Clinton's blow job. He passed around every disgusting Clinton joke, the viler the better, and took great pleasure in Clinton's troubles.

I could never understand how he was missing the obvious. Then I started noticing how gay-bashing politicians and religious leaders are increasingly found to be closeted gays.

A psychiatrist needs to write a book about the sexually repressive right-wing and their perverted leaders.

who's involved with socialism work. I'm taking a social class now for college and we're talking about various classes in socialism and it's so interesting. I'm starting to notice things even more from taking this class. :) A lot of stuff is just plain common sense of course.

3. They didn't miscalculate it
They know that people don't want to think that they are being spied on by their own government. That's why they worked so hard to keep it a secret.

Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 01:37 AM by FreedomAngel82
that if Bush and the neocons wanted to keep it a secret why didn't they just stay within the law or do something to keep it from exploding like it has? They always claim "national security" but they obviously weren't thinking about it than. If they were so worried about "the enemy" "finding out" about what we do (like they don't already know :eyes: )they could've even had a close session or something.

4. From what I've heard about the polls...
...half of Americans say they are fine with Bush's spying. They feel that it's necessary to catch the tourists...uh, I mean, "terrorists."

Seriously, most of the polls that I've seen demonstrate that the majority of Americans are not thinking.

No wonder the Bedazzler is so popular.

8. I thought I it depended how the question is framed
People for the most part are A-ok with wiretapping to catch terrorists. But if it's asked in the context of the President avoiding accountablity, it raises lots of red flags for people. The polls framed this way come out highly against it.

12. I'm sure you're right...
...I'll have to look for some of those polls.

I did see one poll (on CNN) that showed 52 percent said it was ok for Junior to spy. However, 25 percent said it was not ok if they were spied on.

Halloooooooo American people! Time to wakey wakey!

11. Ok, ok...I admit it...
...I've Bedazzled before!! But I was drunk!!

I grew up in the '70's, when the Bedazzler first came out. As shameful as it is to admit, I did have one and boy did my jean jacket sparkle!

Scary.

Torquemada had to do some very fancy dancing today. So, the CPAN Republicans can't be happy.

Nobody likes to feel they are not in their own control. Especially those fake religious types.

7. As Long As Almost Half Of America Still Thinks It's To Protect Us, And
that only known terrorists and the people they call domestically are targeted, this isn't going to gain the momentum it needs. That meme needs to be completely shattered.

Once americans gain the true understanding that thousands and thousands of innocent civilians are monitored, and that the filters are done in such a way that they realize even their calls could be prone, only then will the outrage truly begin.

I think the revelation of the phone companies allowing the government unfiltered access to main switches will be a start, as will some of the things that come out of the hearings.

But have no doubt, as long as they can keep plugging home that they are only protecting us, and "don't we wan't them to track people here that are talking to terrorists overseas?" they have the upper hand, period. We must shatter that meme completely and tear open the reality that tens of thousands of civilians can be monitored for no reason whatsoever. Hopefully we reach that point.

10. Well, the watchers of Cspan tonight
were pretty angry and against it. I don't know how that will fall in line with the rest of the country, but, I think it could be a bellwether.

15. Don't get your hopes up
This is all being orchestrated. The Dems can register all the complaints and handcuff or stop the program, and then there will be another attack, but not too close to the election to prevent the anti-liberal backlash from rising.

18. "You're okay with wiretapping? Then you won't mind carrying papers."
"You also won't mind your entire family's medical and dental records and your children's report cards with teacher comments being filed in a national database either, right? Your marital and divorce records, including counseling, if any, will of course be accessible by your government. For your protection, of course. You won't mind, will you, if your car requires the installation of a tracking device for mileage and destination."

Oh, I could go on and on, this slippery slope is long and wide.

19. Could it be that...
everyone, like me, is having a negative reaction to the false, obsequious, condescending manner of A-GAG? Not to mention Senatoad Specter. Not having Gonzales sworn in makes the whole thing nothing more than a grandstanding exhibition. Democratic senators should have walked out.

21. I was amazed too
I think there were only two people who supported Bush on this. Everyone one was else was really upset. I remember one caller was a republican and started talking about 9/11 and him serving in the military so I thought "oh no he's going to defend Bush" but he totally surprised me! You could hear in his voice how angry he was.
