American's don't like this, the polls reflect it, and Pat Buchanan is dead wrong - it's not just "legalise". This is RESONATING

During the Clinton "scandal", I worked with a guy who was a serial womanizer. A married man who was the stereotypical skirt-chaser, and bragged about it in leering ways. Just a nasty, lowlife individual. Yet, he would go on and on about Bill Clinton's blow job. He passed around every disgusting Clinton joke, the viler the better, and took great pleasure in Clinton's troubles.

I could never understand how he was missing the obvious. Then I started noticing how gay-bashing politicians and religious leaders are increasingly found to be closeted gays.

24. Bingo and also a caller earlier last night made the point

that if Bush and the neocons wanted to keep it a secret why didn't they just stay within the law or do something to keep it from exploding like it has? They always claim "national security" but they obviously weren't thinking about it than. If they were so worried about "the enemy" "finding out" about what we do (like they don't already know :eyes: )they could've even had a close session or something.

People for the most part are A-ok with wiretapping to catch terrorists. But if it's asked in the context of the President avoiding accountablity, it raises lots of red flags for people. The polls framed this way come out highly against it.

I did see one poll (on CNN) that showed 52 percent said it was ok for Junior to spy. However, 25 percent said it was not ok if they were spied on.

7. As Long As Almost Half Of America Still Thinks It's To Protect Us, And

that only known terrorists and the people they call domestically are targeted, this isn't going to gain the momentum it needs. That meme needs to be completely shattered.

Once americans gain the true understanding that thousands and thousands of innocent civilians are monitored, and that the filters are done in such a way that they realize even their calls could be prone, only then will the outrage truly begin.

I think the revelation of the phone companies allowing the government unfiltered access to main switches will be a start, as will some of the things that come out of the hearings.

But have no doubt, as long as they can keep plugging home that they are only protecting us, and "don't we wan't them to track people here that are talking to terrorists overseas?" they have the upper hand, period. We must shatter that meme completely and tear open the reality that tens of thousands of civilians can be monitored for no reason whatsoever. Hopefully we reach that point.

I think there were only two people who supported Bush on this. Everyone one was else was really upset. I remember one caller was a republican and started talking about 9/11 and him serving in the military so I thought "oh no he's going to defend Bush" but he totally surprised me! You could hear in his voice how angry he was.
